Gale Highlights Women’s Day One with Advancement

Lauren Gale in the 400m Earns Spot in Saturday’s Quarterfinals
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Moving onto to Saturday's quarterfinal in the 400-meter race was Lauren Gale after her qualifying time Thursday in the women's first day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
After coming into the first round of the 400m with the 14th-seed in the West, Gale finished 16th, staying within the top-24 and solidifying a slot into the next round. From the outside ninth lane, the Ottawa, Canada native steadily held one of the top spots in her heat and crossed at 52.68, which was .44 off her school record. She will now race Saturday at 6:20 p.m. MT with the top three guaranteed a spot at nationals in Eugene, Ore. The East prelims will also have three guaranteed then the next six best times will earn a spot.
Seven Rams, including one freshman, made their regional debut for the Rams.
The second day for the men starts Friday with the first action for CSU at 12:30 p.m. MT in the discus throw.
