Junior David Roddy led all scorers with 24 as CSU hits all 10 of its free throws in the final 1:04 to seal the win
FORT COLLINS, Colo. –  In a classic Mountain West battle, Colorado State made the key plays down the stretch and knocked down late free throws to earn a 77-72 home win over Utah State Wednesday evening. With the victory, the Rams improved to 12-1 on the year and 2-1 in the league, while the Aggies fell to 10-6 and 1-2 in conference play.
Â
This was a game that neither team could salt away, as the largest run by either squad was an 8-0 surge by CSU. The Rams led by nine at the break, but this was one destined to come down to the final eight minutes. Colorado State led by five at 60-55 with 6:20 to go, but Utah State came back with their biggest run of the game, a 7-0 capped off by a Justin Bean jumper, to take their first and only lead of the second half at 62-60 with 4:37 remaining. However, junior David Roddy had an answer on the next possession with a straight-away three as the shot clock wound down to put CSU up for good.
Â
Colorado State finished the game at 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the floor and 37.0 percent (10-of-27) from the arc. Utah State was 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the field but limited to just 22.2 percent (4-of-18) on threes. The Rams hit 85.0 percent (17-of-20) at the free throw line and rallied late on the boards, finishing with a 32-31 lead.
Â
CSU had four players in double figures, led by Roddy with a game-high 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor along with six rebounds and a pair of assists. Junior Isaiah Stevens finished with 22 points and four assists, while senior Chandler Jacobs and freshman Jalen Lake each added 11. Jacobs finished the game with a career-high nine rebounds. Utah State also had four in double digits, led by Sean Bairstow with 20 points
