Jessica Ozoude and Gabi McDonald Grab Conference Weekly Honors After Air Force Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Super senior Jessica Ozoude and super freshman Gabi McDonald put together performances at the Air Force Invitational that garnered both Mountain West Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, announced by the league office Tuesday.

Ozoude, partaking in her fifth year in the Colorado State track and field program, earned her second MW Track Athlete of the Week nod of the season. The Sparks, Nev., native won the 200-meter race with a time of 23.45, capturing the meet record and the Cadet Field House record. The time ranks 14th in NCAA's indoor performance list thus far for 2021-22. Her personal record in the event is 23.38, which also sits atop of CSU's all-time list.

Listed as a freshman for the indoor season on TFRRS, McDonald has many years of eligibility ahead of her despite it being her fourth year at CSU. Injuries and playing on the soccer team have been factors. You won't find any complaints from head coach Brian Bedard as she already holds top 5 school marks in both shot put lists (indoor and outdoor) plus is top 20 in the discus for the green and gold. This past weekend, she won the shot put with a throw of 53'4.5'' – good for fifth on the all-time list. The distance improved 1'0.5'' from her previous best, which was eighth on the CSU record board. The MW Field Athlete of the Week honor is the first of her career and the second for the CSU throwers this season as Mariano Kis earned the men's version after the Wyoming Power Meet.

For Ozoude this season, the Cadet Field House has been the site of both of her top performances that yielded conference weekly honors. On Dec. 7th, she picked up the accolade after winning the 60m race at the Air Force Holiday Open to start the campaign. Her time of 7.41 is now 42nd in the nation. In all, she has three MW weekly honors to her career.

Next, the Rams will compete in the Colorado Invitational starting Friday, Jan. 28th and ending Saturday, Jan. 29th in Boulder, Colo.
