Colorado State adds another tie in conference play
Air Force Academy, Colo.- Colorado State (4-4-7) fought hard to a scoreless draw with Air Force (4-7-3) on Thursday night.
ÂThe match was even on the stat sheet and on the pitch as both squads managed seven shots leading to eight total saves in the first half. The heat was applied early as the Falcons fired a shot from in close in the opening six minutes. Emilie Gavillet snuffed that chance out in addition to two others through the first 45 minutes.Â
ÂThe Rams applied solid pressure of their own in the opening fame which kept the Falcons goalkeeper busy. Five of the seven first half shots for the Rams were on net but none found the back of the net.Â
ÂThe Falcons came out in the second half as they did in the first, with constant pressure. The first shot on goal came just 75 seconds in and was saved by relief goalkeeper Maddie Ogden. The save was just one of three stops Ogden made to maintain the shutout. The Rams implemented the two goalie system in the final match of non-conference play and it has since produced four shutouts while only allowing six goals in eight matches.Â
ÂColorado State's offense matched its production from the first half and unfortunately led to the same result. Four shots found the net on six attempts but Thursday night was to be a night for the goaltenders as one final shot from Katy Coffin missed just high of the goal and brought the night to a close.
ÂThe tie extends Colorado State's unbeaten streak against the Falcons to seven. The Rams have their final road match against Colorado College on Sunday at 3 p.m., before returning home for the final two weeks of the regular season.
