Colorado State looking for wins as they look up the Mountain West Standings
Fort Collins, Colo.- Colorado State (4-5-7) returns home for the remainder of its scheduled matches this week. The Rams will take on San Jose State (4-2-2) and Fresno State (1-6-1) in their second to last week of regular season play.
ÂThe Rams are coming off a scoreless road trip that included a draw against Air Force and a one goal loss to Colorado College. The Rams have been held without a goal in three consecutive matches despite some of their better offensive pushes of the season.
ÂColorado State is currently looking up in the standings as they aim to secure one of six spots for the Mountain West championship later this month. The Rams sit in ninth place just four points out of the top-six. With three matches left in the 2022 campaign, head coach Keeley Hagen knows just how important the remaining matches are.
Â"Each match is important to try and gain points," said Hagen, "we are excited to be at home and give everything we've got."
ÂDefensively the Rams rank among the best in the conference in goals allowed. Hagen implemented the two-goalie system in the non-conference finale last month as Redshirt Junior Maddie Ogden and Redshirt Senior Emilie Gavillet have alternated which goalie starts and which comes in relief in the second frame. With just 17 goals against in the team's 16 matches Colorado State sits tied for third in the Mountain West.Â
ÂColorado State will start their week with the Spartans, who currently sit in third in the Mountain West standings. San Jose State is tied with the Rams in goals allowed this season, but have managed to score only 12 goals in their 15 matches, fourth lowest in the conference.Â
ÂThe Rams offensively have curated some chances over the last few weeks, but that hasn't translated to goals just yet. Colorado State has the opportunity to get the offense rolling in Sunday's contest against the Bulldogs. Fresno State has allowed 30 goals in its 16 matches this season, the most in the conference.Â
ÂColorado State will celebrate its annual pink out match on Thursday against the Spartans at 3 p.m., before hosting the Bulldogs on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches can be streamed on the Mountain West Network and EvocaTV.
