Rebels and Wolf Pack ready to host Colorado State
FORT COLLINS, Colo.- Colorado State hits the road for the first part of their final road trip of the season this week. The Rams will face the UNLV Rebels on Thursday at 8 p.m, before heading to Reno for a Sunday matinee with Nevada at 2 p.m.
The Rams are coming off a pair of draws as they hosted Boise State and Utah State last week. The two matches continued their point streak, pushing it to five matches.Â
Colorado State has completed its first four conference matches without a loss and is one of only two teams in the conference unbeaten in conference play. The Rams sit tied for fourth in the Mountain West standings and are just a single point out of first place.Â
UNLV and Nevada both sit in the bottom three of the conference after both teams went 1-1 last week. The Rebels and the Wolf Pack have managed 1-2-1 records in conference play after facing the same competition in the first two weeks. The Rebels are allowing one goal per match in the Mountain West improving from their nearly two goals allowed per match against during their non-conference schedule. The Wolf Pack have had a stout defense throughout the 2022 campaign averaging only about one goal per match and seeing that number fall to less than one in conference play. Â
The Rams have played consistent with their opposition, holding opponents to 13 goals while adding 13 of their own. Senior Liv Layton struck again last week, netting her fourth goal of the season. Sunday's tally gave Layton the seventh of her career, propelling her into a tie for fifth most all-time in program history.
The two goalkeeper system has worked well for the Rams as their unbeaten streak moved to five with the partnering of Maddie Ogden and Emilie Gavillet. Ogden allowed her first goal of the season on Sunday but has been stalwart in the net otherwise. Gavillet surrendered her 12th goal of the season in as many starts but made three massive saves en route to the 2-all draw.Â
The Rams take on the Rebels in a Thursday night affair, before traveling the nearly 450 miles to Reno to take on the Wolf Pack.
