Rebels Last Second Strike Keeps Rams From Fifth Win

10/6/2022 11:07:00 PM | Women's Soccer

Colorado State records its fourth straight draw

Las Vegas- Colorado State finishes Thursday night with their fourth straight draw after a goal from the UNLV Rebels in the final seconds knotted the game at one.

The Rams held the lead for nearly 81 minutes until that fateful goal cost them a prized two points in the Mountain West Standings. The Rams have picked up a point now in six straight matches but a win has eluded them since their Mountain West opener against San Diego State.

Success came early for the Rams as Liv Layton took a pass from Hale Otto, and did not miss for her fifth goal of the season. The goal was Layton's eighth of her career moving her into sole possession of fifth all-time in career goals scored. Otto's assist was the first point of her Colorado State career. Layton's goal was the Rams' only shot through the first 45 minutes of the contest. Despite being out shot in the first frame, the Rams took their one goal lead into the break.

Nothing transpired for the Rams offensively in the second half as their offense managed only two shots. Defensively, Colorado State was under siege as the Rebels offense generated nine shots in the second half alone. The constant pressure led to a plethora of corner kicks as the Rebels took seven in the final 45. The tenth and final corner was the one the Rebels needed as redshirt senior midfielder Jules Dominguez ran a ball to the corner and launched a cross into the box that found the head of senior midfielder Kaitlyn Kowalchuk and bounced off the hand of Emillie Gavillet before hitting the back of the net.

The late-game dramatics left the Rams without a win but not without a point, as the Rams grab their seventh point of conference play and sit in a tie for fourth in the conference standings.

The Rams will stay in Nevada, but head to Reno for a Sunday matinee against the Wolf Pack at 2 p.m.
