Colorado State takes first loss of Mountain West slate
RENO, NV- Just 24 days and six matches is all it took, but the Colorado State Rams' point streak came to a close in a 2-0 loss to the Wolf Pack on Sunday.
ÂComing into the matchup with Nevada, Colorado State had yet to finish a Mountain West match without a point in five attempts. Sunday's shutout loss was the Rams sixth match this year they were unable to score a goal and second time in conference play.Â
ÂThe zero on the scoreboard did not tell the tale of the Colorado State offense in the match. The Rams offense yielded their most shots in a match this season with ten in the first 45 while adding another 16 in a comeback attempt in the second half. Ten of the Rams 26 shots found their way to the Wolf Pack goalkeeper but to no avail.Â
ÂDefensively, the Rams shut down the Wolf Pack in the first half allowing just one shot in the first frame. However, that shot came due to a penalty that occured in the Nevada offensive box resulting in a penalty kick and ultimately a goal. The Rams' defense struggled to keep shots from Maddie Ogden, who came in relief of Emilie Gavillet in the second half. Ogden faced seven shots during her shift in goal stopping all but one that was fired in off the crossbar from close.
ÂColorado State's loss puts them further behind Mountain West leaders San Diego State, whom the Rams have a win over in their conference opener late last month.Â
ÂThe Rams will play their final road matches of the regular season on Thursday and Sunday when they take on fellow in-state foes Air Force and Colorado College.
