Three Rams were named first or second team All-Mountain West.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Head Coach Jay Norvell's first season will be capped with the program's first shutout since 2016 and seven Rams earning All-Mountain West recognition, the league announced on Tuesday.

Three Rams, wide receiver Tory Horton; defensive back Jack Howell; and defensive end Mohamed Kamara, earned first- or second-team accolades while four others comprised the five recognitions on the honorable mention squad.

First Team All-Mountain West Second Team All-Mountain West Honorable Mention All-Mountain West Horton, the league-leader in receiving yards (1,131), receptions (71), and receiving yards per game (94.3), wrapped up his Biletnikoff Watch List junior season as one of the nation's most feared wideouts. His season totals put him at No. 8 in yards, No. 10 in receptions, and No. 11 in touchdown receptions (8) for a single season. Against his fellow juniors in school history, the yardage total was the second-most ever and the receptions total was the fourth-most.

Horton is Colorado State's seventh receiver to earn first-team All-Mountain West honors and first since Warren Jackson's 2019 honor made it six-straight years with a first team selection at wideout. Horton joins Jackson, Preston Williams (2018), Michael Gallup (2017, 2016), Rashard Higgins (2015, 2014), David Anderson (2003), and Pete Rebstock (2000) as first-team honorees.

A weapon any time he touched the ball, Horton also received honorable mention designation by the voters as a punt returner. The Fresno, Calif., native finished with a 15.5 return average with 11 returns for 171 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown return against Wyoming. The average ranked as the seventh-best mark in school history.

Howell, who was named a freshman All-American a season ago and earned midseason All-American honors this season by Pro Football Focus (PFF), led the nation's defensive backs with 108 total tackles and 9.8 tackles per game – the second-best mark in the league overall. He joins his father, John, as the first-ever father-son duo in Mountain West history to be recognized as all-conference performers. The Howell's are believed to also be the first father-son duo to earn all-conference honors in program history as well.

The Fort Collins, Colo., native is also Colorado State's first-ever underclassman defensive back to earn first- or second-team while a member of the Mountain West and first to do so by a Ram since Greg Myers as a freshman (1992) and sophomore (1993). He is the first Ram underclassman on defense to earn first-team honors since Nordly Capi in 2011.

Kamara, in his first season as a starter, proved to be a dominant force on the defensive line for the Rams as one of the league's top pass rushers. His 16.0 tackles for loss and 1.33 per game average both ranked second in the league while his 8.5 sacks were the fourth-most among MW defenders. Per PFF, Kamara's 38 hurries ranked second in the league and his 10 quarterback hits ranked third.

Four other Rams also received honorable mention designations including Gardner, Onyechi, Jackson, and Anusiem.

Gardner began his season as the Rams starting center before injuries dictated his move back to left tackle where he remained for the final 10 games of the season.

Onyechi, in his lone season with the Rams, made an immediate impact opposite Kamara on the defensive front. His 13 quarterback hits, per PFF, led the league while his 87.5 defensive grade was the second highest among all edge defenders by the outlet behind only the league's defensive player of the year.

Jackson capped his stellar career at Colorado State by earning his third appearance on the league's all-conference teams. The four-time captain finished with 100 tackles on the season for the first time in his career and ranked seventh in total tackles per game at 8.3.

Anusiem's first season with the Rams was incredibly successful. The Cal transfer proved himself to be one of the top lockdown corners as he posted the third-highest PFF defensive grade (79.4) and fifth-highest coverage grade (79.4) among league corners. His 818 snaps led the Mountain West, and his 46.7 percent catch rate was the second-best among cornerbacks who tallied at least 500 snaps.
