Metro State in for dual Saturday

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Having started the dual season two weekends ago, Colorado State's women's tennis team will play its first home match of the season Saturday when it host Metro State at 2 p.m. at the Fort Collins Country Club.

Doubles will take the court first, with all three positions playing, followed by the six singles matches. There will be  live scoring available.

"I'm extremely excited. After Saturday's Meet the Rams community event and being able to meet our supporters, I think it's just nice to feel the home atmosphere," first-year coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "It's great to be at home, train and play in front of fans. I think Saturday's exhibition and having some rematches, they raised their level of play, and I think it will raise even higher with an opponent."

The Rams split matches to open the season, beating New Mexico State and losing to Arizona State, doing so without a full roster. Matea Mihaljevic is back in the lineup, giving the Rams a chance to put their nationally ranked doubles duo of her and Radka Buzkova back together again. The pairing when 16-2 in the fall and won the ITA Mountain Regional championship, entering the doubles rankings at No. 32, the highest position ever for a CSU doubles team.

Tran felt both opening-weekend matches were good for the team, as the win over the Aggies required some three-set victories, with the Sun Devils putting on display the level highly regarded teams are putting on the court.

"It will be great to see the doubles teams back together. I think we have three solid doubles teams, so I'm excited for that," she said. "Tracy Guo and Lucia Natal didn't get as many matches in together because of travel, so they've done well with the amount of matches they have. Every time they play together, they just get better and better. They're a fun pair to watch because they bring so much energy and completion to their matches."

The Guo-Natal pairing won both of their matches the opening weekend, moving them to 4-0 on the year. The Rams' other ITA Mountain Regional finalists and ITA Fall National qualifiers, Somer Dalla-Bona and Sarka Richterova are 8-5 on the season.

Buzkova leads the team in singles victories thus far, posting 11. Richterova has nine, Dalla-Bona eight.
