Rams Host Colorado Classic for Home Opener

Colorado State will co-host three teams with Northern Colorado this weekend for its home opener.
THIS WEEK
The Rams play their first games of the season at Ram Field in the first of back-to-back weekends as they co-host the Colorado Classic with Northern Colorado this weekend. Colorado State will start the weekend play its home opener against Wisconsin at 12:30 p.m., MT, followed by a game against Saint Mary's (CA) at 3:p.m., MT. Action will continue on Saturday with a doubleheader against Utah Valley before finishing the weekend on Sunday with a final game against the Wolverines.

Colorado State is coming off a weekend in Phoenix Arizona at the Lopes Up Classic, hosted by Grand Canyon. The Rams finished the weekend 4-1, picking up wins against Colgate, Pacific, and two against Incarnate Word.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore outfielder Ashley York was named the Mountain West Player of the Week for her performance last week at the Lopes p Classic. York led the Rams' offense at the Lopes Up Classic last weekend, going 10-for-19 for the week in the dish. She totaled a team-high .526 batting average and slugged .684 with a double and a triple. She also recorded the most RBI for CSU with nine and tied for the most runs scored with six. For the weekend, she finished 8-for-11 with runners on base and 7-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The sophomore led the team swiping 4-for-4 bases, including stealing home to tie the game against Colgate in the weekend opener. York had her best game of the week in an 8-4 victory against Pacific with hits and four RBI.

OPPONENT SCOUT
Wisconsin
The Badgers head to Fort Collins with a 6-6 record after playing at the tough St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational last week, picking up two wins against then-No. 24 UCF in five innings and then-No. 15/12 Clemson in extras. The Badgers hold the series lead against the Rams as they have taken four of the seven games the two have played. The last outing between the two was in February of 2018 where the Rams recorded the 4-3 victory.

Saint Mary's
The Gaels come into the weekend with a 5-10 record after they went 1-2 in their games last weekend where they split with Utah State and lost to San Jose State. The Rams hold a 7-1-1 mark in the series, with CSU winning the last seven contests. The two last played in 2016.

Utah Valley
The Wolverines have a 5-5 record heading into the weekend and will play a doubleheader against Northern Colorado on Thursday. Utah Valley played in the Dixie State Tournament last weekend where it finished 3-2, including two wins against Nevada and a win against Winthrop. The Rams have won the only two matchups so far in the all-time series, with the last coming in 2018 where the Rams won 5-3 at home.
