CSU looks to move up the leaderboard in tomorrow's second round
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – In the opening round of the 2022 Mountain West Women's Golf Championship, Colorado State was unable to get a run going and is eighth after the first 18 holes on Monday. The three-day, 54-hole event, hosted by the Mountain West, is being played at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club (Par 72 – 6,270 yards) in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Â
The Rams battled the championship-level course but couldn't find the birdies and finished at 19-over 307 in eighth. No. 5 San Jose State is the leader at 9-under 279, holding a 12-shot lead over Fresno State in second at 3-over 291. San Diego State is in third at 8-over 296, with New Mexico in fourth at 9-over 297. Boise State is in fifth at 13-over 301.
Â
Junior Andrea Bergsdottir and freshman Lacey Uchida are the leaders for the Rams in a tie for 19th at 3-over 75. Sophomore Sofia Torres is next at 6-over 78 in a tie for 32nd, while junior Gabby Minier is next in a tie for 37th one shot back at 7-over 79. Freshman Pemika Arphamongkol is the final Ram at 8-over 80 in 39th. San Jose State's Natasha Andrea Oon, the sixth-ranked player in the nation, is the first-round individual leader at 7-under 65.
Â
"We did not get off to the start we wanted today," head coach Laura Cilek said. "Lacey and Andrea had solid days today, and they did a great job of trusting their game and being aggressive. From our three-through-five spots, we did not get much to make a move. We found some good things to work on after the around and some course management adjustments that I think will help us going into tomorrow. There is still plenty of golf left and we will get back to work tomorrow to climb up the leaderboard."
Â
The Rams will play their second round with Nevada and Wyoming, going off No. 1 at 8 a.m. MT.
