Rams Use Wild Eight Minutes to Score Second Win of the Season

CSU returns from a three-game road swing with a 2-1 record to begin the year.
Vermillion, S.D. - A thrilling eight-minute span resulted in three Colorado State (2-1) goals to get the Rams a 3-1 victory over host South Dakota (0-3) on Thursday night.
"Anytime you win on the road, it's a positive," said head coach Keeley Hagen. "Credit to South Dakota for capitalizing on our mistake. Our team once again responded and this time with a flurry of goals. We talk about taking initiative and responsibility, and the team stepped up once we went down. I'm looking forward to this week and getting back to work to continue improving in all areas."
The Rams controlled the offensive pace in the first half, leading to five-one shots on goal advantage. However, despite the discrepancy on the stat sheet, CSU and South Dakota were even on the scoreboard through the first 45 minutes.
After the break, Coyotes' forward Shaylee Gailus found the back of the net in the 49th minute. The Rams took no time answering back, notching the tying goal in the 63rd minute thanks to senior midfielder Kaitlyn Abrams. Abrams picked up her third point of the match just 82 seconds later when she assisted on Aleyse Evers' first goal of the season. Just when it seemed the match was cooling down, the final blow came less than eight minutes later as Izzy Wildermuth blazed through the defense and lasered one to the back of the South Dakota net.
The match completes a three-game road swing to open the season for the Rams.
