Two matches in Kansas this week ahead of Mountain West play
FORT COLLINS, Colo.-Â Colorado State hits the road this week for matches in Kansas to close out the non-conference portion of play to lead the Rams into Mountain West action.
The Rams (3-2-1) kick off against Kansas State (3-3-1) at 6 p.m, on Thursday before heading to Kansas City to take on the University of Missouri- Kansas City (0-6-1) on Sunday at noon.
The Rams are coming off a three-match homestand where they went 1-1-1 . After a near-perfect win in the home opener against Southeast Missouri, Colorado State battled to a scoreless draw before seeing its point streak come to close on Sunday versus Denver.
"After six games, we've certainly played more including the summer. The players are getting more familiar with each other and our system. While we still have lots to improve and areas to clean up, we are seeing more positive moments put together and that's the goal."
Colorado State is down to its final two non-conference matches and have seen improvement in that part of its schedule since last year. The Rams finished the 2021 non-conference campaign with a 1-2-3 record which put them behind the rest of the Mountain West heading into conference play. That is not the case this season as the Rams have already managed two more wins than 2021 with two matches remaining.
While the Rams were not able to add another goal scorer to the stat sheet last week, they did produce their second multi-goal scorer of the season on Sunday when Aleyse Evers blasted through the defense to even the match on Sunday. Evers now has two goals on the campaign – the first two of her career – to tie for the team lead with Liv Layton. Layton leads the team in scoring overall with six points thanks to a pair of assists.Â
Two Rams have been the definition of stalwart as the star defender Taylor Bee and the ever-so-steady goalie Emilie Gavillet both have played in every minute to this point in the season.
Thursday evening's match against the Wildcats can be streamed on ESPN+ or Big XII Now, while Sunday afternoon's match against the Roos can be streamed at their team website.
