Rams Go Back on the Road to Play Air Force and New Mexico

Colorado State to play its first road conference games of the season

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A 2-0 start to conference play has set the Colorado State volleyball team up well for its first road matches within the young conference season. In week two of Mountain West play, the Rams will take a short trip down to the U.S. Air Force Academy on Thursday followed by a match in Albuquerque against New Mexico Saturday.

What You Need to Know
  • The Rams currently sit tied for first place in the Mountain West with two other teams who also went 2-0 in the opening week of conference play, Boise State and San Jose State.
  • Junior Kennedy Stanford was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for her performance in CSU's wins over Wyoming and UNLV last week. The outside hitter totaled 24 kills, 15 digs and four blocks over two matches to earn the second weekly award of her career.
  • Colorado State recorded double digit aces against Wyoming last week with Stanford contributing four of the total 11 aces, which is tied for the second highest team ace count in a four-set match since entering the modern scoring format in 2008.
  • This weekend will be only the second true road trip for the Rams as they find themselves nearing the halfway point of the season. CSU is currently 0-2 in away games this year.

Series History
  • The Rams have dominated the Falcons through the two teams' 40-year history with an overwhelming series record of 55-2.
  • Air Force won the opening match between the Falcons and the Rams in 1982, but it then took the Falcons 38 years to win their second game over Colorado State, which took place in 2020.
  • Over 57 games, Air Force has only ever won 11 sets over the Rams.

  • Colorado State continues to take the top spot in the conference for hitting percentage as the Rams are hitting a .271 as a team. Middle Blocker Karina Leber leads the Mountain West in individual hitting percentage with .416.
  • Freshman Libero Kate Yoshimoto ranks sixth in the Mountain West with 174 total digs on the season.
  • Senior Setter Ciera Pritchard is averaging 9.24 assists per set, good for fourth in the conference.
  • Naeemah Weathers continues to make the most of her increased playing time over the past couple weeks as the middle blocker totaled five blocks in CSU's win over UNLV last Thursday.
  • Air Force is one of the top blocking teams in the Mountain West, averaging 2.54 blocks per set which falls in second place. The Rams average 2.16 opponent blocks per set and will look to drop the Falcons' average on Thursday.
  • Similarly, New Mexico sits second in the conference averaging 15.51 team digs per set. Colorado State's high hitting percentage will look to take down a tough Lobos' defense Saturday afternoon.
