Colorado State looking to continue their winning ways
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State (3-1) remains at home this week for two more home matches before heading out for another extended road trip. The Rams begin the week with a Thursday afternoon matchup against Montana (2-2-2) before they close the homestand out with in-state foe Denver (2-3-1).Â
CSU will kick off on Thursday at 3 p.m., for its annual Orange Out game versus the Grizzlies, then finishes up a three-match homestand with the Pioneers on Sunday 3 p.m. Both games will be available to stream on EvocaTV and the Mountain West Network. Â
The Rams have had a strong start to the season winning their third match in four attempts on Sunday against Southeast Missouri.Â
"Every day we ask our players to improve. Each game we have played up to this point has shown us what they know, especially areas to clean up," says head coach Keeley Hagen, "the games have tested us in different ways to ultimately prepare us for conference games. Whenever you can get a positive result, that builds confidence. It's much better to teach off of a win than a loss. As we play more games, everyone else continues to improve and we want to make sure we are doing the same!"
There has been plenty of action for Colorado State as it has scored multiple goals in every win this season. Colorado State has six goal scorers which is already more than the five from a year ago. The Rams also have their first multi-goal scorer of the season as Liv Layton found the back of the net for the second time in 2022. Layton had two goals all of last year and finished the season with eight total points.
The Rams continued to be steady in net on Sunday as Emillie Gavillet notched her first shutout as a Ram while she continued her impressive streak of playing in every minute this campaign. Gavillet is one of two players after the win vs. Southeast Missouri to play every minute, along with Taylor Bee. Â
Sunday marked the first shutout of the season and first shutout win since they took on Air Force last October. In her second season, Hagen is seeing better results in her team's non-conference schedule as it has already picked up two more wins against non-conference opponents than in 2021.Â
