Second Half Rally Falls Just Short in Laramie

Isaiah Stevens became CSU’s career leader in assist

LARAMIE, Wyo.  – The margin between victory and defeat is so slim in college basketball. Colorado State knows about it firsthand playing in overtime three straight times leading up to Saturday's game and falling in a one-possession game 58-57 to Wyoming Saturday.

The loss overshadows Isaiah Stevens putting his name atop the Colorado State record book as he is now the program's leader for career assists with 536, passing Ryan Yoder and his 530. Stevens recorded his second straight double-double and fourth of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds and added in seven assists.

Colorado State dug themselves a 16-point hole early into the second half after an uncharacteristic first half that featured 12 turnovers and shooting 37.5%. The 21 points in the first 20 minutes matched the team's low for the season as CSU scored just five points in the final 8:21.

The Rams started the second half strong with an 8-0 run to cut the Cowboys' lead in half before the first media timeout.

Wyoming pushed the lead back to 13 before CSU commenced on a 15-0 run over a seven-and-a-half-minute stretch to take a two-point lead with 5:56 left.

The teams traded runs after that leading to the nail-bitter finish.

Tied at 57 with 22 seconds remaining, Wyoming held for the last shot as Noah Reynolds drove left in the waning seconds drawing a foul on Jalen Lake with 2.2 on the game clock. Reynolds made the first but missed the second giving CSU an opportunity for the win. The inbounds pass was tipped away allowing the horn to sound and give Wyoming the victory.

Game Notes
- Isaiah Stevens is now CSU's career leader in assists and fourth in points with 536 assists and 1,565 points.
- CSU had a large advantage on the boards, outrebounding Wyoming 38-29.
- The Rams held Wyoming to 33.3% shooting in the second half and just 40.4% for the game.
- Colorado State had their second-most turnovers of the season with 18. Twelve of them coming in the first half.
- Patrick Cartier and John Tonje also reached double digits scoring 13 and 12 points, respectively.
