Colorado State plays in Laramie ahead of Mountain West Championships

FORT COLLINS- One regular season match remains for the Mountain West Championship-bound Colorado State Rams. This week the team (10-5-3, MW: 5-3-2) will travel to Laramie to wrap up the 2023 regular season against Wyoming (6-7-5, MW: 2-6-2) on Thursday at 3 p.m..

It will be the third consecutive season that the Rams will close their season out in border war fashion. Last season the Rams fell at home to the Cowgirls 4-0 ahead of Wyoming's co-conference champion bid. This year both teams are set where they currently are in the standings. The Rams are locked into the four-seed while Wyoming will miss the tournament.

However, the Rams will be playing for something on Thursday. Colorado State has yet to beat Wyoming in its now 10-year history. Wyoming holds a 9-0-1 record including 4-0 at home. The Cowgirls have scored multiple goals in seven of the 10 matches with the Rams, while the Rams have scored just five times in 4 different matches. Colorado State has been held scoreless in four of the last five matches in the series.

The Rams are coming off a week where they split their two matchups with New Mexico and San Diego State. Thursday's win over the Lobos was the 10th and tournament-clinching win for Colorado State. Ten wins is the most for the Rams since 2019 (12). Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Aztecs pushed the Rams out of contention for co-champions in the Mountain West regular season.

Liv Stutzman scored twice in the loss to San Diego State and joined four other Rams' players with multi-goal games this season. Sofia Coulombe did it in Thursday's match against New Mexico joining Mia Casey, Katy Coffin and Olivia Fout, who has done it twice this season. Fout is still looking for the record-breaking 12th goal after her last score against Air Force earlier this month. Thursday's match should provide opportunities to do so, as Wyoming has allowed the second most goals in conference this season.

Colorado State will play its 19th match of the year on Thursday setting them up for their 20th on Sunday which would tie the mark for most matches in a season. The match can be streamed at themw.com
