Offense Galore, Match Ends in Draw

Coulombe’s penalty kick secures point in 89th minute for the Rams

SAN JOSE, Calif – Sunday afternoon's match was a roller coaster ride for both Colorado State and San Jose State. The teams ended up in a 4-all draw, both relieved to come away with a point, but disappointed to not earn the full three.

It was the usual suspect who started the offensive fireworks for CSU as Olivia Fout scored her ninth and 10th goal of the season in the ninth and 37th minutes of play. The first goal came off a set piece from the corner with assists from Sofia Coulombe and Mia Casey. The second was a frozen rope to the top left corner after dribbling it up the field.

With her pair of goals, Fout is two away from setting the program's single-season scoring record.

Just a little over three minutes after Fout found the back of the net, Hale Otto joined the scoring party. The veteran dribbled into the box on the right and used her soft touch to beat the keeper chipping it over her foot and hand to increase the lead to 3-1 going into the half.

San Jose State didn't panic coming out of the locker room as they scored three straight goals to go up 4-3. The first two came within 48 seconds of each other.

The Spartans controlled most of the second half holding CSU without a recorded shot until the 80th minute.

With the clock dwindling down CSU increased its pressure drawing a foul inside the box in the 89th minute. Freshman Sofia Coloumbe took the penalty kick for the Rams and converted beating the keeper high and to the left. The late goal helped the Rams earn another point in Mountain West play.

The four goals by Colorado State on Sunday are the most by the program since they scored six against Idaho State last year and the most allowed by San Jose State this year.

Colorado State returns home this week for Homecoming and Alumni Week. The Rams host Colorado College on Thursday at 3 pm and Air Force at 1 pm next Sunday.

Sunday's match will also feature Futbol Fun Fest. Futbol Fun Fest will feature games, bounce houses, interacting with the team, an Upper 90 Club BBQ and a kids clinic. The kids clinic costs $15 to register and $20 for the Upper 90 Club BBQ.
