Men’s basketball looks to close California trip 2-0

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Colorado State men's basketball looks to make a statement as the calendar quickly approaches March when they face No. 22/20 San Diego State Tuesday night. The Rams will have a tall task ahead of them for the 9 pm MT tip-off inside the Viejas Center.

Opening Tip
- Colorado State outscored Fresno State 12-2 in the final 1:30 of the game Saturday to earn the comeback win 60-57. Senior John Tonje hit the go-ahead free throws with 4.9 seconds remaining.
- The Rams trailed by 11 with 14:53 remaining, down seven with 2:07 left and down five with 0:39, but found a way to win.
- Isaiah Stevens led all Rams with 17 points, adding five rebounds and four assists. Six of his 17 points came in the final 1:30 of the game as the Rams made their comeback.
- Stevens is now tied for second in program history for scoring. His 1,682 points match Bill Green (1960-63).
- Freshman Taviontae Jackson grabbed a career-high eight rebounds in the win.
- The 11-point comeback is the third double digit comeback win of the year for CSU and 15th under head coach Niko Medved.
- Patrick Cartier is ninth in the nation shooting 65.4% from the field. The mark leads the Mountain West.
- Over the past four games the Stevens and Tonje have combined for 146 points. That accounts for 51.0% of the team's scoring during that stretch.
- CSU held Fresno State below 40.0% shooting on Saturday. It was the ninth time holding an opponent under 40.0% this season.
- Colorado State ranks in the top 15 nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.59, 7th), assists (17.2, 8th), effective field goal percentage (56.3%, 9th) and field goal percentage (49.1%, 12th).
- San Diego State won the first game between the teams this year in Fort Collins. The Aztecs escaped Moby Arena with an 82-76 overtime win.
- SDSU's last opponent is also Fresno State. The Aztecs left Fresno with a narrow win 45-43 last Wednesday.

Scouting the Aztecs
A constant atop the Mountain West is where San Diego State finds itself again this season. Brian Dutcher has his team at 21-5 overall and 12-2 in the Mountain West entering the final two weeks of the regular season.

Once again the Aztecs hang their hat on being a tough defensive team. SDSU holds its opponents to 64.9 points per game, and teams shoot 42.1% against them. They are very stingy on the three-point line holding teams to just 28.9%.

Offensively, SDSU has just one player averaging double figures scoring in Matt Bradley and his 13.0 points per game. But seven other Aztecs are scoring 6.9 or more points a game.

What's Ahead
It's time for the Border War round two. CSU hosts Wyoming Friday night at 7 pm.
