Rams Head to California for Pair of Games

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State will head to California this week for a pair of games at San Jose State and Fresno State. The Rams will play the Spartans, the lone games this season, on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., MT. CSU will then travel over to Fresno State for a Saturday afternoon game at 5:00 p.m., MT against the Bulldogs.

Tip Off
Colorado State will head to California this week, facing two teams in the bottom half of the Mountain West standings at San Jose State and Fresno State. The Rams will play the Spartans on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., MT before driving to Fresno State for a Saturday contest at 5:00 p.m., MT.

Recapping Last Week
CSU played two games in Moby Arena, picking up a pair of victories. The Rams blew past Utah State on Thursday for Education Day before a last-second 3-pointer gave CSU the win over Wyoming in the first edition of the Border War.

Leaving No Doubt
So far this season, Colorado State holds a +11.7 scoring margin - No. 46 in the nation. The Rams have had 10 games where they defeated their opponent by 20+ points. In CSU's 15 wins, it holds a 20.7 win margin and an 16.3 margin in its eight Mountain West victories.

Getting Buckets
McKenna Hofschild isn't afraid to pull the trigger. That's why she is on a 40-game streak where she has scored double-figure points. Last time she didn't score double figures was on Jan. 19, 2022 at Utah State when she scored seven. Since then, she is averaging 20.7 points/game with three games with 30+ points and 20 games with 20-plus points.

Colorado State takes care of the ball, while also moving it around to create assists. The Rams enter their 13th week leading the country in assist/turnover ratio at 1.80. McKenna Hofschild is No. 1 in the country with a 4.15 mark, having 41 turnovers and 170 assists in 23 contests. Last season she finished the year at No. 5 in the nation with a 3.00 ratio.

Nail Biters
In games that are decided by five points or less, the Rams are 1-6. CSU suffered a pair of losses to SEC programs Mississippi State and Auburn by a combined six points. The Rams' four conference losses have all come by less than five points, averaging a -3.75 margin. Colorado State finally earned a close-game victory, hitting a last-second 3-pointer against Wyoming last week.

The Rams have suffered eight losses so far this season, posting just a -5.4 scoring margin which is the lowest in the country.

Controlling The Paint
In the Rams home win against Nevada, Cali Clark pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds and added three blocks. Since the start of Mountain West play, the forward is averaging 7.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocks - both in the top in the conference and is one-of-three players in both categories (Abby Muse (BSU) and Allyson Fertig, WYO).

Home Sweet Home
When playing in Moby Arena, Colorado State is 12-2 overall, averaging 76.4 points per contest, while also keeping opponents to 61.5 points (+14.9 margin).

Chasing History
McKenna Hofschild is chasing Stalwart company. The senior has dished out 500 assists while at Colorado State. The guard is one-of-three in program history, to record 1,000 points and 400-plus assists, joining Ellen Nystrom and Becky Hammon. Hofschild is No. 4 in career assists behind Dee Dee Dominguez at 523.

San Jose State Series History
Colorado State leads the overall series against San Jose State, 19-6 including a 7-3 mark while playing in California. The Rams have won the last three games in the series, while four of their six total losses have come away from Moby Arena.

Last Time Against Fresno State
Colorado State and Fresno State will meet for the second time this season. The Rams picked up a 64-58 victory in Moby Arena in the Mountain West opener on Dec. 29, 2022. McKenna Hofschild led the Rams with 29 points on 8-of-19 and 4-of-5 behind the arc, while also dishing out eight assists. Destiny Thurman added 15 points and brought down seven rebounds.

Fresno State Series History
Colorado State leads the series 18-14 overall and 8-7 while playing at the Save Mart Center. The Rams played the Bulldogs in Fresno last season for the lone contest, earning a 78-67 victory. CSU is 2-4 in recent games in California, earning a win last season and in the 2020-21 season.
