Colorado State to kick off opening weekend versus Bradley Friday morning

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team is back in action and ready to kick off another season as the Rams travel to the New Mexico State Invitational for opening weekend of college softball this Friday through Sunday.

The Rams will open their season against Bradley Friday morning at 11 a.m. Colorado State will play the Braves two more times throughout the weekend including Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m., as well as match up with New Mexico State both Friday at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.

Colorado State returns fourteen letterwinners from last season where they finished sixth in the Mountain West standings. This season, returning more experience and leadership from last year's youthful team, the Rams are looking to open the season with a successful weekend against two younger rosters in Bradley and New Mexico State. Colorado State is 2-1 all time against Bradley and 25-33 overall against the Aggies.

Notable returners for Colorado State include Hailey Smith, Peyton Allen, Danielle Serna, Julia Cabral and Ashley York.

Smith was Colorado State's batting average leader from last season, hitting at a .354 average. Allen recorded nine home runs as the top slugger for the Rams in 2022 while York led the team in hits with 55 on the year. Serna and Cabral both return in the circle for the Rams as Serna recorded a 3.77 ERA last season while also hitting six home runs from the batter's box. Cabral led Colorado State in innings pitched with 94.2 and will continue to be a vital piece of the Rams' pitching staff in her senior year.

The New Mexico State Invitational is one of four non-conference tournaments that Colorado State will participate in before its home opener and conference opener against San Diego State March 17. The Rams will also travel to the Cal Baptist Classic February 17-19, the Texas State Tournament February 24-26 and the GCU Invitational March 10-12.
