Hawkins and Kimpson Named Mountain West Athletes of the Week

Season best performances from both athletes rank them in top five of conference
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Track and Field team boasts two Mountain West Athletes of the Week after competition at the Fum McGraw Power Meet last Sunday as Michaela Hawkins and Maria Kimpson represent the Rams among this week's honorees.

Michaela Hawkins was named the Mountain West Women's Field Athlete of the Week after a season best performance in the discus last weekend at the Fum McGraw Power meet. The senior's mark of 55.80 meters, which also won her the event in Sunday's meet, ranks third in the conference so far this season.

Hawkins is the reigning conference champion in the women's discus throw, winning gold at the 2022 Mountain West Outdoor Championship Meet last year.

Maria Kimpson was named the Mountain West Women's Freshman Athlete of the Week after a personal best performance in the women's pole vault, winning the event at the Fum McGraw Power Meet with a clearance of 3.92 meters and ranking her fourth overall in the conference.

Kimpson placed tenth during the Mountain West Indoor Championship Meet in February with a mark of 3.63 meters.

The Rams will be back in action this Saturday, April 28 at the Doug Max Invitational hosted in Fort Collins at the Jack Christiansen Memorial Track starting at 10 a.m.
