Colorado State drops game three versus the Spartans
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Colorado State softball team fell to the San Jose State Spartans in game three of its weekend series in California by a score of 6-2.
Â
A low scoring game through the first four innings, the Rams jumped on the board first with an RBI single from Danielle Serna who scored Peyton Allen from second base after Allen reached on a walk.
Â
In the third, a Hailey Smith RBI single plated Ashley York who singled in the previous at-bat. York would end the game as the top hitter for the Rams as the junior finished 3-4 with three singles. Colorado State found themselves with a 2-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
Â
Serna got the start in the circle for the Rams in game three of the series as the senior started the game going three and two-thirds innings without giving up a single hit to the Spartans. Reina Zermeno broke up the no-hitter for the Spartans with a two-out single in the fourth.
Â
In the next inning, Serna would again only give up one hit, but the hit was a four-run grand slam to Alyssa Graham after the bases were loaded off of two walks and a hit-by-pitch. The Rams now faced a two-run deficit that would turn into a four-run deficit when the Spartans plated two more runs in the sixth inning.
Â
Unable to extend the game in the top of the seventh, Colorado State dropped the rubber match to move to 5-6 in the Mountain West.
Â
The Rams will return home for a mid-week double header Wednesday afternoon as Colorado State takes on Utah State at Ram Field starting at 12 p.m.
