Colorado State holds Lancers scoreless in second road match
Riverside, Calif.-Â Colorado State battled both their opponent Cal Baptist, but the heat as well in the first meeting between the two teams on Sunday night. It was the second straight shutout effort for the Rams, this time 1-0, receiving boosts from familiar faces.
The southern California heat served as an obstacle for both teams. Less than three minutes into the contest the officials called an extreme heat timeout, delaying the match 30 minutes.
Coming out of the timeout both teams struggled to find their rhythm offensively. It wasn't until the 26th minute that the Rams generated their first real scoring opportunity and capitalized.Â
Olivia Fout found the back of the net for the third time this season. Fout has scored a goal in each of Colorado State's matches.Â
Fresh legs coming off a week-long break helped the Colorado State defense.Â
The Rams' defense stood strong again on Sunday holding the Lancers to only three shots on goal throughout the 90 minutes. Colorado State's defense has only allowed a single goal in their first three matches and has now played four straight halves without allowing one.Â
Goalkeeper Shayna Ross recorded her second shutout of the year stopping two of the three shots that were on the mark for the Lancers, including their final attempt in the 89th minute.Â
While the majority of the stat sheet was even across the board, CSU did well with end-line pressure to earn eight corner kicks to five for CBU.
The Rams now move to 2-0-1 on the season as they head home with eyes set on UKMC on Thursday. Â Â
