Dobreva held No. 8 ranking in country
FORT COLLINS – Adding a second freshman to the 2024-25 signing class, Colorado State women's tennis coach Mai-Ly Tran announced the addition of Canadian junior Mariya Dobreva on Thursday.
Â
"We are thrilled to bring on Mariya this upcoming fall. Â She is a skilled left-handed player who brings infectious energy to those around her," Tran said. "Her extroverted personality and genuine passion for the sport are qualities which will undoubtedly make her a cherished teammate. Â She'll be a great addition to our program, and we are looking forward to her positive impact. Â We can't wait for her to get to Fort Collins!"
Â
Dobreva, who was born in Bulgaria, has been ranked as high as No. 8 in Canada, reaching No. 3 in Quebec. She has a couple of ITF tournament wins to her credit, one in Montreal, the other in Woodbridge, reaching as high as 509 in the world junior rankings. She chose Colorado State for the athletic and academic blend with a plan to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering.
Â
She joins fellow freshman Paisha Douglas, who signed in November, in the recruiting class.
Â
The Rams have just begun the 2024 spring dual season, coming off the two most successful campaigns in program history. Tran guided the team to 31 dual wins in the past two seasons, the 15 in 2022 and the 16 in 2023 the top two single-season victory totals to record.
