Colorado State voted to finish third in 2024 season

FORT COLLINS – The Mountain West league office announced Wednesday the results of the 2024 Pre-Season Coaches Poll and Pre-Season All-Mountain West team. The Rams boast two athletes on the all-conference list, Ashley York and Hailey Smith and were voted to finish third in the Mountain West this season.

Both York and Smith are coming off of a stellar 2023 season where both were named to the All-Mountain West First-Team. Both junior outfielders return for their senior seasons in a Ram uniform in 2024.

York, who finished the 2023 regular season with the best overall batting average in the conference at .404, was the only player to hit over .400 in the league last season. She finished tied for third in total hits with 65 after playing in all 47 games for Colorado State in 2023. Her First-Team All-Mountain West recognition last season was the first of her career.

Smith finished the 2023 season as one of the top sluggers in the conference totaling 12 home runs, good for a second-place ranking, eight doubles and three triples for a regular season slugging percentage of .635. Her 2023 First-Team All-Mountain West recognition was the right fielder's second all-conference honor as she was named to the second team after her sophomore campaign in 2022.

As a team, the Rams received 46 points in poll and were voted to finish third in the Mountain West behind front runner San Diego State who finished the voting with 64 points and eight first-place votes, and Boise State who finished with 57 votes and one first-place vote.

Following the Rams are the Fresno State Bulldogs voted to finish fourth with 41 points, the Nevada Wolf Pack voted to finish fifth with 37 points, the UNLV Rebels voted to finish sixth with 28 points, rounded out by Utah State, New Mexico and San Jose State with 19, 17 and 15 points respectively.

In the 2024 season, Colorado State will host Boise State, Nevada, New Mexico and San Jose State while they plan to face San Diego State, Fresno State, UNLV and Utah State on the road. The Rams will kick off their season at the Easton Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton February 9 against the Pacific Tigers.
