RAM TALK
- The Week That Was: The Rams opened the 2024-25 season with a pair of wins, beginning with the season opener against San Francisco on Nov. 4. Colorado State struggled to shoot the ball and trailed for most of the evening, but Emma (18) and Hannah (13) Ronsiek helped push the Rams to a second-half comeback. Friday was a – slightly – different story as the Rams looked much better offensively, but still needed a monster second half to come back and defeat 2024 Elite Eight participants Oregon State. The Ronsiek Sisters were once again the catalyst as they combined for 50 points (Emma 26, Hannah 24) in the win.
- Good First Impression: After being named the Mountain West Co-Preseason Player of the Year, all Emma Ronsiek did in her first two games with Colorado State was claim the first MW Player of the Week honor of the 2024-25 season. Emma lived up to her billing in her first outings with the Green and Gold, averaging 22.0 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game to lead Colorado State to a pair of wins, including a 65-59 victory over Oregon State. The elder of the two Ronsiek sisters was the Rams' leading scorer in both games, and ranks first or tied for first in the league in a number of statistical categories, including points per game, total field goal makes (15) and assist-to-turnover ratio (9.00).
- Sisters Are Serving: Sisters Emma and Hannah Ronsiek have lived up to the hype of their reunion thus far as they have been the Rams' top-two scorers in each game this season. The duo were virtually unstoppable in Colorado State's win over Oregon State as Emma (26) and Hannah (24) poured in 50 of CSU's 65 points, shooting a combined 10-20 from behind the arc. In total, the Ronsiek Sisters have scored 81 of Colorado State's 117 points, 69.2 percent of the Green and Gold's production.
- Protect The Rock: The Rams do a lot of good things, but one of their secrets to success is actually something they DON'T do: Turn the ball over. The Rams have led the nation in fewest turnovers per game in each of the last two seasons, coughing it up only 9.1 times per game in 2023-24. Despite the new-look roster, that trait seems to have been passed down to this year's squad as the Rams are giving up an average of just 5.5 turnovers per game, second in the nation and top in the Mountain West.
- New-Look Rams: Colorado State returns just two starters from last season in Hannah Ronsiek and Sanna Ström, in addition to Marta Leimane who started 11 games. With seven letterwinners lost, head coach Ryun Williams and his staff hit the recruiting trail to bring in eight newcomers for the 2024-25 season, including a pair of Division I transfers Emma Ronsiek (Creighton) and Hannah Simental (Northern Colorado).
- Keepin' Things Clean: Colorado State has been one of the cleanest teams in the nation over the past 10 seasons, ranking fifth nationally in fouls per game since the 2014-15 season (13.7). The Green and Gold are keeping pace with history thus far in the 2024-25 season, committing just 10.0 fouls per game which is fifth in the nation.
SCOUTING REPORT
- The BYU Cougars: BYU finished the 2023-24 with a 16-17 record while competing in a deep Big 12 conference. The Cougars are already off to a 2-0 start in 2024-25, including a 76-63 win over Wyoming that could serve as an early measuring stick for Colorado State.
- The Columbia College Cougars: The Cougars have been one of the top teams at the NAIA level over the past three seasons, posting a combined record of 79-17 in the last three campaigns. A 3-0 start has Columbia College poised for another successful year. The Rams will need to focus on controlling the glass as the Cougars average 46.7 rebounds per game and are outrebounding their opponents by an average of 10.3 per contest.
