Dear Ram Country,
Thank you for being such an incredible difference maker this fall! You have filled Canvas Stadium and Moby Arena and have created an unbelievable home field and home court advantage for our programs! It's especially important for me to point out how our students have filled Canvas Stadium and Moby Arena this fall and have set student attendance records for both venues along the way. The energy and support coming from our students and our community has been nothing short of amazing and I'm excited to see that continue with our basketball programs this winter!
Of course though, you show up to watch our programs compete and I couldn't be more proud of our student-athletes and coaches. Their hard work, preparations and talent have been on full display and this fall has been fantastic!Â
Rams Volleyball and Coach Kohan nailed down a regular-season championship with a pair of home wins last week. They're now off to the Mountain West Tournament as the top seed and the squad is focused on a return to the NCAA Tournament. Coach Kohan was named the Mountain West Coach of the Year and Malaya Jones was named the Player of the Year – congratulations to both, and to all four All-Mountain West selections from the team.
Â
Turning our attention to football, a chance to advance to the Mountain West Championship game is still possible for the Rams and they aim to take the next step this Friday. Coach Jay Norvell's group strung together an amazing run with five consecutive conference wins, something the program hadn't accomplished since the 2017 season. The streak includes trophy wins over our rivals Air Force and Wyoming. Placing both pieces of hardware in the trophy case in a single season hasn't been accomplished since 2015. Kudos to the team, which has us all excited for more! And a special thank you to the Air Force and Army ROTC Cadets who once again traveled Highway 287, delivering the game ball that led to a Border War game victory!
Â
Ram Country, I'd be hugely appreciative to see you in Canvas Stadium this Friday. So get your Black Friday shopping done early and be at Canvas Stadium to help us celebrate Senior Day by honoring 28 great football student-athletes, marching band, spirit squad, ROTC, CAM handlers, and football student assistant seniors.
Even though we wrap up our home schedule this Friday, we're not done playing football as the Rams are bowling for the first time since 2017! The date and location is still to be determined, but make room on your calendars for a little extra holiday season travel excitement and join us on the road!
Looking further around our department, there are so many accolades to salute. Our soccer team, led by Keeley Hagen, put together one of the most successful campaigns in program history, earning a tie for second place in the regular season, the best in program history, and advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament. The seven wins in conference play established a record, with the 12 overall wins matching another. Our Rams completed their first season in the new Soccer Complex, and it was special.
Our cross country team closed the season last week with a pair of individual qualifiers for the NCAA Championships. Congratulations to Anna Petr, Lars Mitchel and Coach Kelly Hart for representing the Rams so well on a national stage!Â
I mentioned it earlier and it deserves to be repeated; Moby Madness and Ram Country make a real difference. Both Coach Ryun Williams and Coach Niko Medved and our women's and men's basketball teams return to Moby Arena in early December. The men host LMU on Wednesday, December 4 and the women host Gonzaga on December 8. If you have not already, please mark your calendar for both dates and join us at Moby Arena!
As noted, our women's basketball team and Coach Williams are hosting perennial NCAA Tournament qualifier and future Pac-12 conference opponent Gonzaga, and the goal is to sell out Moby Arena and show the Zags what Moby Madness is all about. Tickets are just $1 and we need Ram Country's help! Last year, Rams from everywhere helped sell out Moby Arena and our team earn a win, and we are asking all Rams to come back to campus on December 8!
I also want to take a moment to call out everyone behind the scenes. There has been a tremendous amount of change and growth this year and our team of administrators, staff, and support personnel in the Athletic Department, across campus, and in the community continue to rise to the challenge. I'm extremely proud of this team and grateful to our partners and can't wait to show you all the great things coming.
As we close out this edition, I need to be mindful that it would be impossible to enjoy these successes without the support of the greatest fans in the West! Your continued support of the Green And Gold Guard and the Ram Club allows our student-athletes to gain the most from their collegiate experience as they pursue degrees from a world-class institution in one of the best cities in the country! Your continued support will help us transition into the Pac-12 in 2026 with the goal of becoming a lead institution in the best conference in the West.
Let's make this a couple of weeks to remember in Ram Country!
Go Rams!
