Colorado State uses overtime to defeat Tennessee State

FORT COLLINS – The will to win. That's what Nique Clifford and Jalen Lake showed as they scored 53 of Colorado State's 87 points in an 87-79 overtime victory over Tennessee State Friday night.

The duo each set career-highs scoring, Clifford with 31 points and Lake with 22. Clifford picked up his second double-double to start the young season with 13 boards.

An up-and-down first half led to CSU trailing by two at the break.

Colorado State came out to start the second half strong opening it on a 15-2 run, building their lead to eight. Tennessee State never backed down and chipped away at the Rams' lead.

While CSU led for the majority of the second half, TSU continued to hit tough shot after tough shot while holding the Rams to 38.2% in the half. The two consistents all night on the offensive end for CSU were Clifford and Lake who scored 26 points in that second half and made 10 of the team's 13 field goals.

It took an Aaron Nkrumah acrobatic 3-pointer inside the final second to send the game to overtime.

In the extra five-minute period, the Rams' shooting luck changed. They went a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 10-of-12 from the charity stripe, a place where CSU struggled early in the 2024-25 season.

Freshman Kyle Jorgenson scored seven straight points for Colorado State in overtime, including a huge 3-pointer with 2:44 left that put the team up two possessions.

In the second game of his career, Jorgenson scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds.

CSU reversed its free throw struggles in overtime to put the game away as their final seven points came from the charity stripe.
