Colorado State takes on Nevada in Reno Saturday

FORT COLLINS – Non-conference season is over, the holiday season can be put on hold, it's the Mountain West season for Colorado State men's basketball. The Rams tip-off its conference play at Nevada on Saturday, December 21st at 3 p.m. MT.
 
Opening Tip
- Colorado State closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 78-68 win at home against Radford on Tuesday night.
- Four Rams finished the game with double figures scoring, led by Rashaan Mbemba's 16.
- The 16 points were a career-best for Mbemba to go with his six rebounds, assist, block and steal.
- Mbemba is averaging 13.0 points and 6.5 rebounds over the past two games.
- Jalen Lake extended double figures scoring streak to 10 games with his 11 points against Radford.
- Lake has increased his scoring during his senior season averaging 14.6 points.
- Nique Clifford is averaging 16.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game to lead Colorado State.
- He was selected to the preseason All-Mountain West team after earning third team honors last season.
- Clifford finished three points shy of his sixth double-double of the year with seven points and 10 rebounds the last time out.
- Sophomore guard Kyan Evans has seen a scoring uptick in the last six games averaging 8.5 points and reaching double figures four times. He scored a career-best 15 against Radford.
- Freshman Kyle Jorgensen picked up Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors after averaging 9.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in his first two games. He scored seven straight points for the Rams in overtime to lift them past TSU.
- The freshman started in four games this year, averaging 6.4 points and 2.7 rebounds.
- Head coach Niko Medved is in his seventh year leading Colorado State. He is 123-80 as the Rams' head coach. He has the second most wins in program history trailing only Jim Williams (1955-80) and his 352.
- He became the fifth coach in program history to reach 100 wins in Fort Collins last year.
- Medved is the only coach in program history to win 20-plus games four times.
- He picked up his 200th career win in November with the Rams' overtime win over TCU.
- The Rams welcome 10 new faces to the program in 2024-25. Six are transfers, and four are true freshmen.
- The program's all-time leading scorer and assists leader, Isaiah Stevens has moved on to professional basketball after exhausting his eligibility. He is currently with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the G League affiliate of the Miami Heat.
- Stevens helped the Heat to a 2024 Summer League Championship.
- CSU has two players currently in the NBA or G League with David Roddy (Atlanta Hawks) and Isaiah Stevens (Miami Heat/Sioux Falls Skyforce).
 
Scouting the Wolf Pack
Steve Alford's Wolf Pack enter Mountain West play at 8-3 overall having faced a trio of similar opponents as the Rams. They defeated Washington and VCU, while falling to LMU.
 
Kobe Sanders and Nick Davidson are Nevada's main two scorers, averaging 15.4 and 15.2 points each. They have also combined for 84 assists on the year, with Davidson leading the team with 6.6 rebounds per game.
 
Nevada's offense has been very efficient this season, shooing 50.4% on the year and an effective field goal percentage of 58.4%, both ranking 12th in the nation.
 
What's Ahead
Colorado State opens its home slate of the Mountain West schedule when New Mexico comes to town on Saturday, December 28 at 1 p.m. Tickets for the game are just $7.
