RAM TALK
  • The Week That Was: Colorado State opened conference play with an 83-74 win on the road against Utah State. It was not a perfect performance from the Rams as the national leader in turnovers per game (8.8 entering the game) gave it up 15 times. CSU leaned on its graduate seniors to get the win as Emma Ronsiek (20) and Hannah Simental (19) combined for 39 points.
  • Game Breaker: Emma Ronsiek has been one of the most well-rounded players in the country this season with her ability to impact the game in multiple ways. Ronsiek is one of only eight players nationally to average 19 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists against Division 1 opponents this season, joining the likes of JuJu Watkins (USC) and Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame). According to HerHoopStats, Ronsiek's averages against DI opponents rank in the 98th-percentile or better for minutes (37.8), points (19.1), FGs (6.6), 3FGs (2.6).
  • Protect The Rock: The Rams do a lot of good things, but one of their secrets to success is actually something they DON'T do: Turn the ball over. The Rams have led the nation in fewest turnovers per game in each of the last two seasons, coughing it up only 9.1 times per game in 2023-24. Despite the new-look roster, that trait has passed down to this year's squad as the Rams are giving up an average of just 9.3 turnovers through 10 games, which leads the country once again. The Green and Gold are one of just two teams in Division I to average less than 10 turnovers per game, while no other team in the MW is averaging less than 12.
  • Sisters Are Serving: Sisters Emma and Hannah Ronsiek have lived up to the hype of their reunion thus far as they have been the Rams' top-two scorers and rebounders this season. Emma is scoring 17.6 points to go with 5.7 boards per game while also leading the team in assists (3.5 per), meanwhile Hannah is averaging 9.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and leads the Rams in steals (1.5).
  • Red-Hot: Hannah Simental has been on fire from 3-point range as of late, knocking down 10 triples in the Rams' last two games. Simental sank five against Stephen F. Austin, including four in the fourth quarter, and helped lead CSU to a road win over Utah State with another five makes from behind the arc. Despite coming off the bench, Simental has become a reliable source of points for the Rams this season, averaging 8.6 for the season and 11.1 in the last eight games.
  • 60's The Limit: Colorado State has been one of the better defensive teams in the Mountain West, holding opponents to just 35.5% shooting from the field (First in MW) and are holding teams to just 59.3 points per game (Third in the MW). 60 has been the target number for the Rams defensively as eight of their 10 wins this season have come when holding their opponents below that number.
  • Net Positive: Colorado State enters the week with a NET ranking of 95, making it one of three Mountain West Schools to be ranked in the top 100: UNLV (47), San Diego State (82).

SCOUTING REPORT
  • The San Diego State Aztecs: The Aztecs have been one of the top teams in the Mountain West throughout the course of non-conference play, which is reflected in their No. 82 NET ranking which is second in the league. San Diego State is well-balanced on the offensive of the ball - eight players averaging at least 6.0 points per game - and lead the conference by allowing just 58.0 points per game on the defensive end of the floor. SDSU opened conference play on the right foot with a 74-59 win over Boise State at home.
  • The San Jose State Spartans: The Spartans enter the week with a 7-7 overall record, which includes a road loss to Nevada to begin league play. SJSU's primary threat is 6-foot-2 forward Finau Tonga, who averages 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in just 19.0 points per game.
