Rams Hit Road for Challenging Pair

4/10/2024 4:57:00 PM | Women's Tennis

Trip starts with visit to No. 60 San Diego State

FORT COLLINS – Getting on a roll heading into the Mountain West Tournament is the goal, one which will be met with some pushback this weekend for Colorado State's women's tennis team.

The Rams currently sit fifth in the standings, good enough to earn a bye in the opening round of the draw. However, the final three matches of the season all come against squads ahead of Colorado State in the standings, including a pair this weekend as the Rams travel to face No. 60 San Diego State on Friday, followed by a Sunday date with UNLV.

"I truly believe everything happens for a reason and our journey to this point is an example. All of our competitions have challenged us in different ways," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "We've improved and grown each and every single match.  Once again, we are excited for the opportunity to  face two tough conference teams.  We know what level we can play at and we're ready for it."

The Aztecs have been in the ITA rankings all season, as have their top two singles players – Andjela Skrobonja (No. 84) and Yasmine Kabbaj (No. 98). San Diego State is 11-5 on the season, 5-1 in Mountain West play (with one match lost to weather). A team the Rams have only beaten once in program history in 25 meetings, the Aztecs are coming off two wins this past weekend, gaining a 4-3 victory over New Mexico with just five players. There will be a live stream for the match, one which will include scoring.

UNLV is 12-6 overall, 5-2 in conference play. The Rebels are also coming off a perfect weekend with road wins at Utah State and Boise State. After opening the season with a loss to New Mexico, the Rebels have won five of six with the lone loss to Wyoming, 4-3. Live scoring is available for the match.

Radka Buzkova produced two singles victories and one in doubles last weekend, continuing her climb in the program's record book. She currently ranks tied for seventh with career singles wins (61), moved to fifth in career singles wins at No. 2 (15) and ranks second with 63 career doubles victories. Her 24 doubles wins this season rank third all time, just two behind the program record she and Matea Mihaljevic set in 2021-22.

Zara Lennon leads the Rams with 15 singles wins this season, with five others having reached double digits.
