Colorado State continues conference play with a three-game series against San Jose State

FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State softball team (23-15, 6-7 MW) is gearing up for an exciting three-game series against San Jose State (13-23, 3-10) this Friday through Sunday at Ram Field. This showdown marks the sixth week of conference play, promising thrilling action on the diamond as the Rams bring a five game win streak back with them from last weekend's play in Logan, Utah.

What You Need to Know 
  • This weekend's three-game matchup will kick off on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a game at 4 p.m. Saturday and concluding with a 12 p.m. game Sunday. Weather is expected in Fort Collins this weekend, so fans should stay tuned to @CSUSoftball on social media for possible schedule updates. 
  • On Friday, the Rams will host their annual MVP Day, honoring their favorite CSU professors. Sunday will feature the annual pink out game, with fans encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. 
  • All three games against the Spartans will be streamed via the Mountain West Network. 
 
Scouting the Spartans 
  • The Spartans come into the weekend with an overall record of 13-23 and a Mountain West record of 3-10. They've secured wins against Boise State, who is tied with the Rams in fifth place, as well as a series victory over New Mexico. 
  • The Spartans were voted to finish ninth in the Mountain West preseason poll. 
  • In the 2023 matchup, the Spartans emerged victorious in two out of three games, clinching the series over the Rams. 
  • The Spartans currently maintain a .260 team batting average along with a 4.96 team pitching ERA. 
 
Game Notes  
  • The Rams enjoyed a successful 3-0 weekend, outscoring Utah State 32-10, including two run-rule victories. They are now eager to carry this winning momentum and a five-game win streak into the upcoming weekend. 
  • Senior, Ashley York had significant success at the plate, batting .700 with a home run, a triple and an RBI. She reached base at an impressive .750 clip, serving as an available base runner for her teammates to bat home six different times over the weekend, during which the Rams scored a total of 32 runs. Her outstanding performance earned her the title of Mountain West Athlete of the Week. 
  • Freshman Jailey Wilson had another outstanding weekend as well, going five-for-nine at the plate with three home runs, all of which came in Sunday's game against Utah State. Jailey racked up seven RBI and scored four runs, leading the Rams to a series sweep and earning the title of Colorado State Water-Pik Student Athlete of the Week. 
  • Senior Maya Matsubara showcased her dominance at the plate over the weekend, going four-for-ten with two RBI and four runs scored. Her impressive performance solidifies her position as fourth in the Mountain West with an overall batting average of .407. Additionally, she currently holds the top spot in the conference with five triples. 
  • Senior Molly Gates was effective at the plate over the weekend, boasting an impressive batting average of .636. She accumulated seven hits and drove in five RBI with two extra base hits. 
  • Senior Peyton Allen delivered an outstanding performance over the weekend, boasting a remarkable slugging percentage of 1.273. She tallied six hits and eight RBI, including one home run, a triple and three doubles.
