Final Match Carries Significance for Rams

Three seniors to be honored prior to Border War
FORT COLLINS – Friday's regular-season finale is quite the setup.
Â
Colorado State's women's tennis team will host rival Wyoming with the outcome carrying crucial stakes for the upcoming Mountain West Tournament. With a win, the Rams can secure an opening-round bye; a loss has them playing when the tournament opens April 24 at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.
Â
"Our matches against Wyoming have always been a battle until the end. Â Nothing has changed about our expectations for this match," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "When we show up and play our tennis with energy, resilience and grit, we are tough to beat. Â We are ready for this Border War!"
Â
The match, originally scheduled for 3:30 p.m., has been moved to 11 a.m. at the CSU Tennis Complex due to predicted weather. If the match is forced inside, it will be played at the Fort Collins Country Club at 3:30 p.m. Regardless of venue, a live stream and live scoring are available.
Â
The Rams enter the match 5-4 in conference play, 9-10 overall. The Cowgirls are 6-3 in the MW, 15-9 overall. A Colorado State win could force a three-way tie (UNLV, 6-3, plays a 7-1 San Diego State team needing a win to secure the top seed). In that scenario, the Rams would own wins against both teams, but would still come out on the short end of the tiebreaker. League rules state a three-way tie is broken by ITA rankings, and in those current projections the Rams would be behind both.
Â
It would still result in a first-round bye, though it could lead to an immediate rematch with the Cowgirls.
Â
The day will also carry the emotions of celebrating three departing seniors, Radka Buzkova, Zara Lennon and Sarka Richterova. All have played a key role in the rise of the program under Tran, with the past two seasons standing as the best in program history. The team is one dual win shy of reaching 10 wins for a third consecutive year, which has only been accomplished twice prior in program history.
Â
Buzkova ranks tied for seventh in career singles wins with 61, tied for fifth in wins at the No. 2 spot (15) and second in career doubles victories with 64. Her 25 doubles wins this year rank second, one behind the program record she shares with Matea Mihaljevic. Lennon leads the team this year with 15 singles wins. Richterova, who has missed time this season due to injury, have posted 11 singles wins and five in doubles.
Â
"Senior Day can be an emotional day. Â It's expected, especially when you have a group of seniors who have made such a huge impact on this program," Tran said. "They have made the most of their time here at CSU. Â They've created lifelong friendships and memories and left this tennis program in a better place. Â We can't wait to celebrate their achievements and thank them for everything they've done for CSU and this program."Â
