Rams looking to extend home success

FORT COLLINS – Returning to its comfort zone, Colorado State's women's tennis team  is set to host a pair of Mountain West matches this weekend. San Jose State comes in Friday, followed by Fresno State on Sunday.

Both matches are slated for 11 a.m. starts if played outdoors at the CSU Tennis Complex. If inclement weather forces a match indoors, Friday's set will remain at 11 a.m., but Sunday's would be pushed to 12 p.m. at the Fort Collins Country Club.

There will be a live stream and live scoring for both matches.

The Spartans are 11-4 overall, 2-2 in conference having had one match rained out. The match will also stand as Inclusive Excellence day for the team. The Rams lead the overall series with SJSU 4-1 having swept the past two meetings.

The Bulldogs are 8-9 overall, 2-1 conference with two matches lost to weather. It will be the seventh meeting between the two schools, with the Rams looking for their first victory in the series as the team recognizes international students at the match.

"Our focus this week is to continue to trust in our abilities and preparation. We've had many close, competitive matches this year," CSU coach Mai-Ly Tran said, her team 6-2 in Fort Collins. "The margin is very small between us and our opponents.  We've put in a lot of team and individual work, and it's a matter of all of us bringing it on match day.

"The team has done a great job of having the right mindset and outlook on our matches.  We are right there, and I feel good about where we are as a team.  It's time for the second half of conference. We are looking forward to making a strong push."

No. 1 doubles team Radka Buzkova and Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya enter the weekend unbeaten in Mountain West play with a 5-0 mark. Buzkova now has 62 career doubles wins to rank second on the school's all-time list, while her 59 career singles wins rank eighth. Zara Lennon leads the team with 14 singles victories this season, with Sarah Weekley owning 11 singles wins, Luana Avelar and Sarka Richterova 10 each.
