Tennis team hosts the Jon Messick Invitational
FORT COLLINS – With the first competition of the season finished, Colorado State women's tennis is gearing up for the Jon Messick Invitational, which will be the Rams' first home competition of the season. The tournament runs Friday through Sunday at the CSU Tennis Complex as the program hosts Wyoming, Utah State, South Dakota, Weber State, Iowa State, Air Force and Oregon. Â
Â
Colorado State finished its last tournament with two lines reaching the final, but without a title. Logan Voeks had to injury withdraw from her singles match and her double match with Sarah Weekley. Â
Â
The coaches have now had a chance to observe the team and with the time between tournaments, they have been able to work on their skills. The group hopes to go into the tournament more comfortably with their doubles partners while still being able to learn from it and play even better.Â
Â
"We've been able to rest, recover and prepare for this next opportunity," coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "The team is excited, ready to play, and we are enjoying the process of preparation leading up to it."Â Â
Â
The tournament starts Friday at 10 a.m. with one round of play in singles and two in doubles. Saturday will be the opposite with two in singles and one in doubles. Finishing up the tournament, Sunday will have the final round for both doubles and singles; Saturday and Sunday's action begins at 9 a.m.Â
Â
There will be live scoring for the event.
Â
"It's always enjoyable to play the Jon Messick Invitational in honor of one of our long-time coaches here at CSU and also play at home in front of our supporters,"Â Tran said. Â
