RAM TALK
- The Week That Was: Colorado State put its 3-0 MW record on the line against fellow conference unbeaten UNLV last Wednesday and was dealt a 70-61 loss in Las Vegas. Turnovers, which are typically a strength of the Rams, were the difference maker in the game as UNLV scored 21 points off 18 turnovers, CSU's most in a game since the 2020-21 season.
- Game Breaker: Emma Ronsiek has been one of the most well-rounded players in the country this season with her ability to impact the game in multiple ways. Ronsiek is one of only eight players nationally to average 19.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists against Division 1 opponents this season, joining the likes of JuJu Watkins (USC) and Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame). Ronsiek is the only non-guard in the country to be posting such numbers. According to HerHoopStats, Ronsiek's averages against DI opponents rank in the 99th-percentile or better for minutes (36.3), points (19.2), FGs (6.9) and 3FGs (2.7).
- Make It Rain: Colorado State has been on fire from 3-point range this season, converting 36.8% of their attempts from deep which leads the MW and ranks 24th nationally. The 3-pointer has been a large part of the Rams' offensive gameplan as they make an average of 8.6 shots from deep per game, which is also tops in the league and 26th nationally. Emma Ronsiek, Hannah Ronsiek and Hannah Simental have been lighting it up from distance as they each shoot better than 38% from distance and are the top three on Colorado State's roster in regards to 3-pointers made. Emma Ronsiek's 41 3-pointers this season ranks 41st nationally and is second in the Mountain West.
- Sisters Are Serving: Sisters Emma and Hannah Ronsiek have lived up to the hype of their reunion thus far as they have been the Rams' top-two scorers and rebounders this season. Emma is scoring 18.0 points to go with 5.7 boards per game while also leading the team in assists per game (3.1). Meanwhile, Hannah is averaging 9.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game and leads the Rams in steals per game (1.4).
- 60's The Limit: Colorado State has been one of the top defensive teams in the Mountain West, holding opponents to just 36.0% shooting from the field (first in MW, 24th nationally) and are holding teams to just 59.2 points per game (first in the MW). 60 has been the target number for the Rams defensively as 10 of their 12 wins this season have come when holding their opponents below that mark.
- Protect The Rock: The Rams do a lot of good things, but one of their secrets to success is actually something they DON'T do: Turn the ball over. The Rams have led the nation in fewest turnovers per game in each of the last two seasons, coughing it up only 9.1 times per game in 2023-24. Despite the new-look roster, that trait has passed down to this year's squad as the Rams are giving up an average of just 9.9 turnovers, which is second nationally. The Green and Gold are one of just two teams in Division I to average less than 10 turnovers per game.
- Net Positive: Colorado State enters the week with a NET ranking of 85, maintaining its position despite a Quad 2 loss to UNLV last week. CSU is one of one of four Mountain West Schools inside the top 100: UNLV (51), Wyoming (92) and San Diego State (98).
SCOUTING REPORT
- The San Diego State Aztecs: Wednesday's game is set to be a defensive battle between Colorado State's league-leading defense (59.2 points allowed per game) against San Diego State's third-leading defense (60.4). The Aztecs are shooting 47.4% from the field in MW games – third in the league – but are ninth in the conference in 3-point percentage with a mark of just 29.6.
- The New Mexico Lobos: After just going 7-6 in the nonconference portion of their schedule, the Lobos are off to a hot start in conference play with a 4-1 start. Like CSU, New Mexico's only loss is to current conference frontrunner UNLV. The Lobos boast a pair of dynamic guards in Destinee Hooks (17.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg) and Viane Cumber (15.4 ppg, 6.3 rpg), who will command a lot of attention defensively from the Rams.
