RAM TALK
- The Week That Was: Colorado State increased its win streak to four games with a pair of victories last week. The Rams began the week by handling Utah State, 72-54, in front of over 5,000 elementary students on Education Day at Moby Arena and followed it up with a 65-58 win on the road at Air Force. The victory on base snapped a four-game losing streak at Clune Arena and allowed CSU to maintain its position at second in the MW standings.
- Moby Madness: Moby Madness is the best home court advantage in the Mountain West, and the numbers back it up. Across the past five seasons (since 2020-21) Colorado State women's basketball has the best home winning percentage in the league (.829), and the same is true for combined winning percentage with men's and women's programs (.823).
- Protect The Rock: The Rams do a lot of good things, but one of their secrets to success is actually something they DON'T do: Turn the ball over. The Rams have led the nation in fewest turnovers per game in each of the last two seasons, coughing it up only 9.1 times per game in 2023-24. Despite the new-look roster, that trait has passed down to this year's squad as the Rams are giving up an average of just 9.2 turnovers, which is top of the country once again. The Green and Gold is the only team in Division I to average less than 10 turnovers per game and have three games with less than five turnovers.
- Among The Best: Emma Ronsiek has been one of the most well-rounded players in the country this season with her ability to impact the game in multiple ways. Ronsiek is one of only 12 players nationally to average 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists against Division 1 opponents this season, joining the likes of women's basketball stars JuJu Watkins (Southern California), Lauren Betts (UCLA) and Haley Cavinder (Miami).
- 60's The Limit: Colorado State has been one of the top defensive teams in the Mountain West, holding opponents to just 36.9% shooting from the field (1st in MW, 29th nationally) and limiting teams to just 60.8 points per game (2nd in the MW). 60 has been the target number for the Rams defensively as 14 of their 19 wins this season have come when holding their opponents below that mark. CSU is a perfect 14-0 when holding opponents below that 60-point line.
- Quite The Career: Emma Ronsiek has enjoyed an incredible college basketball career and has been one of the most prolific players in the nation across the past five seasons. Ronsiek is one of just four active players to record 2,000 points, 750 rebounds and 350 assists in their NCAA DI careers, and is the only one playing in the Mountain West this season.
- Don't Put Them On The Line: The Rams have not wasted their chances at the free-throw line this season, shooting 77.1% from the line as a unit which is first in the Mountain West and 22nd nationally. CSU's pair of Division I transfers have each been among the best free-throw shooters in the country over the past couple of seasons. Emma Ronsiek was the 12th-best shooter from the charity stripe last year, making 122-of-137 attempts (89.1). Hannah Simental was sixth in the nation with a 91.2% clip (104-114) in 2022-23, but did not take enough attempts to qualify for national rankings last season. Against Boise State, Ronsiek tied the program's best shooting performance from the charity stripe with a 12-for-12 performance.
- Sisters Are Serving: Sisters Emma and Hannah Ronsiek have lived up to the hype of their reunion thus far as they combine to average 27.7 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. Together the sisters lead the Rams in nearly every major statistical category, including points (Emma, 18.2), rebounds (Hannah, 6.3), assists (Emma, 2.8), steals (Hannah, 1.4) and blocks (Hannah, 0.9).
SCOUTING REPORT
- The Fresno State Bulldogs: Wednesday's matchup will be a battle of frontrunners for the Mountain West Player of the Year Award as Fresno State's Mia Jacobs (18.8 pts, 9.9 reb, 2.2 stl) and CSU's Emma Ronsiek (18.2 pts, 5.9 reb, 2.8 ast) have been two of the top players in the league all season. The Bulldogs have shown no fear of playing on the road, sporting a record of 6-4 in away games.
- The UNLV Lady Rebels: The three-time defending MW champions, UNLV is right back on top of the conference with a 13-1 record. The Lady Rebels have one of the most well-rounded teams in the country, sporting four double-digit scorers which includes the MW leader in assists, Kiara Jackson (5.3 per game).
