RAM TALK
  • The Week That Was: Colorado State hosted the sixth-annual Fight Like A Ram game on Saturday in which it partners with UCHealth to honor local cancer warriors. The Rams engage with the warriors at various events in the weeks leading up to the game, and during the game CSU puts the warriors' names on the backs of its jerseys. Despite the incredible day, Colorado State was dealt a 75-71 loss at the hands of Air Force, just the third home loss of the season for the Rams.
  • Protect The Rock: The Rams do a lot of good things, but one of their secrets to success is actually something they DON'T do: Turn the ball over. The Rams have led the nation in fewest turnovers per game in each of the last two seasons, coughing it up only 9.1 times per game in 2023-24. Despite the new-look roster, that trait has passed down to this year's squad as the Rams are giving up an average of just 9.1 turnovers, which is top of the country once again. The Green and Gold is one of just two teams in Division I to average less than 10 turnovers per game (Minnesota), and has three games this season with less than five turnovers.
  • Among The Best: Emma Ronsiek has been one of the most well-rounded players in the country this season with her ability to impact the game in multiple ways. Ronsiek is one of only 13 players nationally to average 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists against Division 1 opponents this season, joining the likes of women's basketball stars JuJu Watkins (Southern California), Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame), Flau'Jae Johnson (LSU) and Lauren Betts (UCLA).
  • 60's The Limit: Colorado State has been one of the top defensive teams in the Mountain West, holding opponents to just 37.0% shooting from the field (1st in MW, 35th nationally) and are holding teams to just 61.1 points per game (3rd in the MW). 60 has been the target number for the Rams defensively as 12 of their 15 wins this season have come when holding their opponents below that mark.
  • Make It Rain: Colorado State has been deadly from deep this season, converting 35.5% of their 3-point attempts which leads the MW and is top-35 nationally. The 3-pointer has been a large part of the Rams' offensive gameplan as they make an average of 8.2 shots from deep per game (3rd in MW). Emma Ronsiek, Hannah Ronsiek and Hannah Simental have been lighting it up from distance as they each shoot better than 35% from distance and have combined to make 125 of CSU's 181 3-pointers this season.
  • Don't Put Them On The Line: The Rams have not wasted their chances at the free-throw line this season, shooting 77.8% from the line as a unit which is first in the Mountain West and 19th nationally. CSU's pair of Division I transfers have each been among the best free-throw shooters in the country over the past couple of seasons. Emma Ronsiek was the 12th-best shooter from the charity stripe last year, making 122-of-137 attempts (89.1). Hannah Simental was sixth in the nation with a 91.2% clip (104-114) in 2022-23, but did not take enough attempts to qualify for national rankings last season.
  • National Spotlight: CSU's game against New Mexico will be broadcast to a national audience on FS1. It's the Rams' first national TV game since Feb. 25, 2023 when they played on FS1 against Wyoming.

SCOUTING REPORT
  • The New Mexico Lobos: The Lobos dealt Colorado State a 78-74 loss in Moby Arena in the first matchup between the two teams, but have lost three-straight MW games in the buildup to Tuesday. The guard tandem of Destinee Hooks and Vianè Cumber is one of the most prolific duos in the league, combining to average 33.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
  • The Boise State Broncos: Boise State's quartet of guards featuring Natalie Pasco (12.8ppg), Tatum Thompson (12.0ppg), Mya Hansen (8.8ppg) and Dani Bayes (8.5ppg) provide the team's offensive spark, while center Abby Muse (2.35 blocks per game) offers an intimidating presence on the defensive end. ExtraMile Arena has not been kind to opposing teams this season as the Broncos have an 11-1 record when playing at home.
