Rams to Host Colorado Classic in Home Opening Weekend

Northern Colorado and Texas A&M Corpus Christi to travel to Ram Field
FORT COLLINS - The Colorado State softball team will host its first home tournament of the season at Ram Field for the Colorado Classic February 28 through March 2. The Rams will compete in four games over the course of two days, opening with their first game on Friday against Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

What You Need to Know
- This weekend serves as the first home tournament for the Rams, after they spent their first three weekends of the season on the road.Â
- Admission to Ram Field is free with concession and fan gear available at the ballpark.
- The Rams are set to host the Rams Invitational and UNLV in the Mountain West conference open over the next two weekends at Ram Field.
- Fans planning on attending the March 1 match ups at Ram Field will be directed to park on Hughes Way due to both the men's and women's basketball games taking place at Moby Arena that afternoon. Parking for these specific games are sold out via the Colorado State ticket office. Find an overflow parking map here.
Scouting the InvitationalÂ
- The Rams have faced Texas A&M Corpus Christi once back in 2020 in which the Rams beat the Islanders 1-0. Last season the Islanders finished the season ranked sixth in the Southland Conference after going 9-15 in conference and 21-22 overall. The Islanders are currently ranked sixth in the Southland Conference, their most notable win against Northern Colorado with a score of 12-9. The Islanders look to junior Skylar Heger as she leads the team with a .290 batting average after recording nine hits, six RBI and one home run during the first three weeks of the season. Texas A&M Corpus Christi is predicted to finish sixth in the Southland Conference according to preseason polls.Â
- The Rams have faced Northern Colorado 48 times in previous years, most recently back in 2022, in which the Rams defeated the Bears 10-1. Last season the Bears clinched the regular season title and were named the Big Sky Tournament Champions after going 9-5 during conference and 27-26 overall. Northern Colorado is currently ranked third in the Big Sky, currently 4-10 going into week three. The Bears have looked to junior Amailee Morales on offense as she currently leads the team with a .366 batting average after recording 15 hits, eight RBI, and three home runs. UNC is predicted to finish first in the Big Sky according to the preseason coaches' polls.Â
Game NotesÂ
- Last weekend the Rams competed in the Hillenbrand Invitational alongside several ranked teams and went 1-4, with a win over UC Davis.
- Sophomore Jailey Wilson hit her first home run of the season against No. 1 Texas to put the Rams on the board. Later during the weekend, Wilson added two more home runs after recording her third career multi-home run game against the Aggies, contributing to the Rams victory.Â
- Sophomore Reagan Wick recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts against UC Davis, strongly contributing to the Rams win. Wick is currently ranked fifth in the Mountain West with 28 struck out batters, 10 of which struck out looking.Â
- Redshirt junior Jordan West hit her first home run of the season during extra innings against UC Davis, extending the Rams lead, ultimately ending in their victory over the Aggies.Â
- Freshman Autumn Rutherford currently leads the team with a .354 batting average after recording 17 hits, eight RBI and one home run. She will make her Ram Field debut this weekend.
