CSU travels to Reno before taking on Wyoming in home finale.
FORT COLLINS. – Colorado State women's basketball travels to Reno, Nev., for a matchup with Nevada on Wednesday (Feb. 26) before playing its home finale against Wyoming on Saturday (March 1) at 6 p.m. MT. Saturday's game will be Senior Night in which the team recognizes its four-person senior class: Emma Ronsiek, Hannah Simental, Sanna Ström and Joseana Vaz.
Â
Saturday's game will be a double-header with the CSU men's team, which takes on Utah State at 2 p.m. This offers a great opportunity for Ram Country to take in action from both squads, as those who purchase tickets to the men's game are eligible to stay to watch the women's action. Fans will not be required to leave Moby Arena between games, providing a chance to enjoy Moby Arena concessions and craft beer from the FNBO Loft during the break. RAM TALK
- The Week That Was: Colorado State began its week by dismantling Fresno State, 68-48, at Moby Arena on Wednesday. In a battle of MW Player of the Year candidates, Emma Ronsiek dropped 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists while the Rams locked down the Bulldogs' Mia Jacobs, who scored just five points. Saturday's matchup with UNLV was a battle between the top two teams in the league, but despite a second-half comeback the Rams could not get over the hump against the Lady Rebels.
- Moby Madness: Moby Madness is the best home court advantage in the Mountain West, and the numbers back it up. Across the past five seasons (since 2020-21) Colorado State men's and women's basketball combine for the best home winning percentage in the league (.821). CSU is the only school in the conference to win 80% of its home games during that stretch.
- Protect The Rock: The Rams do a lot of good things, but one of their secrets to success is actually something they DON'T do: Turn the ball over. The Rams have led the nation in fewest turnovers per game in each of the last two seasons, coughing it up only 9.1 times per game in 2023-24. Despite the new-look roster, that trait has passed down to this year's squad as the Rams are giving up an average of just 9.0 turnovers, which is top of the country once again. The Green and Gold is the only team in Division I to average less than 10 turnovers per game and have three games with less than five turnovers.
- Among The Best: Emma Ronsiek has been one of the most well-rounded players in the country this season with her ability to impact the game in multiple ways. Ronsiek is one of only 10 players nationally to average 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists against Division 1 opponents this season, joining the likes of women's basketball stars JuJu Watkins (Southern California) and Lauren Betts (UCLA).
- 60's The Limit: Colorado State has been one of the top defensive teams in the Mountain West, holding opponents to just 36.8% shooting from the field (1st in MW, 30th nationally) and limiting teams to just 60.6 points per game (3rd in the MW). 60 has been the target number for the Rams defensively as 15 of their 20 wins this season have come when holding their opponents below that mark. CSU is a perfect 15-0 when holding opponents below that 60-point limit.
- Quite The Career: Emma Ronsiek has enjoyed an incredible college basketball career and has been one of the most prolific players in the nation across the past five seasons. Ronsiek is one of just four active players to record 2,000 points, 750 rebounds and 350 assists in their NCAA DI careers, and is the only one playing in the Mountain West this season.
- Don't Put Them On The Line: The Rams have not wasted their chances at the free-throw line this season, shooting 77.7% from the line as a unit which is first in the Mountain West and top-20 nationally. CSU's pair of Division I transfers have each been among the best free-throw shooters in the country over the past couple of seasons. Emma Ronsiek was the 12th-best shooter from the charity stripe last year, making 122-of-137 attempts (89.1). Hannah Simental was sixth in the nation with a 91.2% clip (104-114) in 2022-23, but did not take enough attempts to qualify for national rankings last season. Against Boise State, Ronsiek tied the program's best shooting performance from the charity stripe with a 12-for-12 performance.
- Rams Respond: CSU has not lost many games this season, but when the Rams do drop games they respond well by winning the following game each time.
- Closing Time: Colorado State rarely gives up its leads as the Rams are 18-2 when leading after the first quarter this season. CSU has closed out wins at a good rate, posting a 16-1 record when leading at halftime and a 18-1 record when on top entering the fourth quarter.
SCOUTING REPORT
- The Nevada Wolf Pack: The Wolf Pack are in the midst of a three-game losing skid, but nearly upset the MW's No. 3 team Wyoming last Saturday, losing 45-42. Nevada is led by a pair of 6-foot-0 forwards in Lexie Givens (12.9 pts, 6.7 reb) and Kennedy Lee (11.7 pts, 5.8 reb), which will ask questions of CSU's undersized lineup. Â
- The Wyoming Cowgirls: Wyoming enters the week tied with Colorado State for second in the Mountain West standings, but the Rams' triumph in Laramie in January separates the two teams for now. Cowgirl center Allyson Fertig has been a dominant force this season, assembling a strong case for conference player of the year by averaging 19.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.
