Rams Drop Match at Minnesota
2/8/2025 2:07:00 PM | Women's Tennis
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Winning when starting from behind is a tricky feat. Regardless of the outcome, every game is an opportunity to learn and improve for the next one.
Â
Colorado State's women's tennis team fell 7-0 against Minnesota on Saturday.
 Â
"We struggled against a more discipled foe," coach Mai-Ly Tran said. "Some of our weaknesses were exposed, but it revealed some things we need to work on."Â
Â
The No. 3 doubles match and the No.6 singles match were forfeited by CSU due to injury giving the Golden Gophers an early edge since they only had to win one of the two doubles matches.
Â
Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya and Logan Voeks dropped their doubles match to Minesota's Anlin Xie and Jeselle Ante, 6-4. Victoria Erechtchenko and Sarah Weekley stayed doubles teammates but moved to the No. 1 spot and were the only Rams to win a doubles match, 6-4.
Â
"Vicki and Sarah have been a consistently strong team together," Tran said. "They keep getting better and it's great to see them play well today against a tough opponent."Â
Â
After earning the doubles point, Minnesota went on to win the five singles matches. The final singles match to finish went down to the wire with Logan Voeks pushing the last set to seven, but she was unable to attain the win, dropping the match 6-0, 7-6 against Anlin Xie. After being the only Ram to win her singles matches on opening weekend, Mariya Dobreva dropped her first singles match of the spring season against Mia Liepert 6-3,6-0.
 Â
Minnesota was the Rams' second consecutive outing playing a team in a power conference and they are able to learn a lot from these kinds of matchups.Â
Â
"I know we can do better," Tran said. "We are lucky to have a match tomorrow where we have an opportunity to get better right away."Â
Â
The Rams will look to improve upon their play when they play against Missouri on Sunday (8:30 a.m.). There will be live scoring for the match. Â
