Rams Finish With Split Weekend
3/9/2025 3:41:00 PM | Women's Tennis
FULLERTON, Calif. – After a challenging non-conference slate, the attention now turns to conference play.
Â
Colorado State's women's tennis split a weekend series in California on Sunday, dropping a 4-0 decision to Cal State Fullerton, leaving three tight matches on court at the conclusion. The Rams now sit at 2-9 in duals as they return home to begin Mountain West play this week at home with a pair of matches.
Â
The top doubles team of Victoria Erechtchenko and Sarah Weekley continued their nice run of play, needing a tiebreak to post a victory, but the Titans still took a lead by winning the doubles point. It was the third consecutive victory for Erechechenko and Weekley, who have gone 6-3 this season.
Â
"Sarah and Vici keep getting better and better," Tran said. "They are feeling confident with each other and are able to life each other up when needed. I love the way they are playing together."
Â
Paired with a forfeit, Fullerton then posted a pair of singles victories to clinch the match, leaving a trio of matches still in play. Erechtchenko, Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya and Logan Voeks were all still on the court, each having won a first set, the latter two having dropped the second and in the early stages of a third.
Â
Colorado State faced five teams currently ranked in the run up to conference play, and including the most recent pair of matches, Tran feels the challenges have prepared her team for what awaits.
Â
"Outdoor tennis at sea level helps build our shot tolerance, discipline and grit. We'e had really good reps with our team this weekend," she said. "I am impressed by the way they adapt to all the conditions we have to play in. Conference play is always exciting."
Â
The Rams will host Nevada on Friday and New Mexico on Sunday to open Mountain West play.
