Pair of transfers fills out roster for upcoming season

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State will carry 10 players this season on the women's tennis roster, with head coach Mai-Ly Tran filling the final two pieces of the roster with veteran transfers with multiple years of eligibility.

Annika Planinsek comes from Ball State, while Sorcha Caves joins the roster from South Dakota. Both held spots in top part of their lineups, and Caves comes with a familiarity to the program having participated in the Jon Messick Invitational at CSU the past two seasons.

Annika Planinsek | Hoce, Slovenia | Ball State

She missed the spring portion of the 2025-26 season due to injury, giving her two years of eligibility remaining. In the fall, she was a finalists at the MAC Individuals at singles, reaching the third round of the Ohio Valley regional. Up until then, her career with the Cardinals had been stellar. She was named the MAC Freshman of the Year, going 14-2 in singles and doubles play during conference. As a sophomore, she was a first-team All-MAC selection playing at the No. 1 spot, winning eight of her final 10 matches of the season.

Said Tran: "We're excited to welcome Annika to our Fall 2025 class. She's a proven competitor with experience at the top of the lineup and brings a level of maturity that will elevate our young team. What stands out most is her determination to return to the court stronger, and her deep appreciation for the opportunity to compete again. We believe she's ready to make an immediate impact on our program, both on and off the court."

Sorcha Caves | Glasgow, Scotland | South Dakota

A mainstay in the Coyotes lineup for two seasons, she transfers to the Rams with two years of eligibility. As a freshman in 2024, played in the top part of the singles lineup and at No. 3 in doubles, but a year later, closed her sophomore season at No. 2 in singles, playing at the top doubles spot the entire campaign. She has compiled an 18-29 record in singles, and 33-27 at doubles. She came to the states as the top-ranked player in the U18 category in Scotland.

Said Tran: "We're also excited to welcome Sorcha as the final addition to our 2025 class. She's been a familiar face during our fall competition, and we've seen firsthand what a strong competitor she is. Beyond her level of play, Sorcha has impressed us with her maturity, team-first attitude, and drive to keep improving. She holds herself to a high standard, and we're looking forward to the impact she'll have on our program."
