Caves Reaches Alpha Semis on Day One

Four other Rams pick up singles wins at Air Force
AIR FORCE ACADEMY – Jumping directly into the fall campaign, Colorado State's tennis team started play in the Bedford Cup on Friday, putting forth new pairings for doubles while the Rams had two chances on the day to play on their own at the Air Force Academy.
Colorado State had one doubles team advance on the opening day with Sorcha Caves and Stella Simpson-Morgan posting a 6-3 win over Claudia Martinez de Velasco and Louise Wikander of Denver in the top flight. Three other squads drop down into the consolation rounds, which will pick up against on Saturday.
In singles, Caves continued to move forward as well, posting a pair of straight-sets wins in the Alpha flight, putting her in Saturday's semifinals. Luana Avelar picked up a win in the same bracket, joining teammates Annika Planinsek, Simpson-Morgan and Leyla Tozin as Rams who split their two matches.
Saturday's play will begin at 9:15 a.m., returning to doubles tandems being first on the court and playing out two rounds. Singles play will follow with semifinals on both sides of each flight.
