Colorado State claims its first award of the outdoor season

FORT COLLINS – Colorado State track and field thrower Kyle Bigley won the Rams their first weekly Mountain West award of the outdoor season. His display in his hometown of Pueblo, Colo. at the Dr. Dan Capriogilo Early Bird Invitational saw him compete in three events.

Bigley's top event was the shot put in which he launched a near PR, dominating the field and surging first to first place in the conference. The mark of 18.18-meters/59-feet-7.75 currently ranks as the ninth best throw in the nation.

Bigley performed strongly in his other disciplines, finishing fourth in the discus at a mark of 51.26/168-2. He ranks fifth in the MW and 36th in the NCAA West qualifying table.
In the hammer throw, the Pueblo native finished fifth on the day at 55.79/183-0; the mark ranks third in the conference and 42nd in the NCAA West rankings.

Looking Ahead
Bigley and the rest of the Rams compete on home turf this weekend. Friday has the throwers taking on the hammer throw while Saturday supplies the remainder of the events.
