Michael Mooney joined the Colorado State track and field staff as a volunteer coach ahead of the 2025 season.Â
Mooney joined the Colorado State distance program as a student athlete in 2018, which marked the beginning of a seven seasons as a member of the Green and Gold. He competed in three seasons of competition, while enduring several surgeries that caused him to miss time on the track. He was a top contributor for the Rams, attending the regional cross country championships in his three seasons and making one appearance at the NCAA Championships. Mooney Received All-Mountain West honors in 2022 and 2024 and finished All-NCAA Mountain Region in 2024.Â
In track and field, Mooney sits in several positions in CSU's all-time record book. For indoor track and field, his name lies in the 3000m (3rd), 5000m (7th), Mile (16th), while standing fourth in the 5000m for outdoor. Mooney became the fourth Ram to ever run a sub-8 3k (7:57.67) in 2024 at the Husky Classic. He also finished runner-up in the Mile at the MW Indoor Championships in 2019 and made one appearance at NCAA Regionals in 2025 in the outdoor 5k.
