Konold’s career performance leads the way in Columbia
Columbia, Mo. - Colorado State cross country competed Friday at the Pre-National Invite hosted by Missouri. The women's side finished 15th, surpassing several power five programs and Mountain Region competitors, while the men competed individually.
- Mari Konold led the way for the women, recording her first sub-21-minute 6K at a time of 20:52.0. Konold led the Rams across the line with the best mark by a member of the Green and Gold this season, recording the tenth best time by a Mountain West runner in 2025.
- The women's side has made a habit of moving in a pack this season, and Friday was no different. All five scored runners finished within 30 places of one another, with four of them finishing within 12 spots. CSU finished ahead of Utah State, a team that sits above them at sixth in the Mountain Regional rankings, as well as Nebraska who also is sixth in its region.
- It was a good day to set a personal best as in addition to Konold, freshmen Tatum Berg (20:59.2) and Amrie Lacefield (21:01.5) set new benchmarks. Berg and Lacefield now have the second and third best times by a freshman in the Mountain West this season, respectively. Both runners also currently rank in the top 60 marks of any Division I freshman this season.
- The PRs did not stop there as Kenya Dennee set a personal best at 20:57.8. The senior has been a force in her return to action, finishing first place at the UCCS XC Open (Oct 10th) last week, and now ending up as the second Ram across the line today. Shea Volkmer also set a personal best at 21:25.1, beating the mark she had set at the Roadrunner Invite (Sep 20th) earlier this season.
- Chris Henry was the bright spot for the men's side, finishing 79th and just shy of a personal best. Following him was freshman Parker Westermann who continues to be a top contributor for the Rams.
