Diane Miller To Be Honored By Alma Mater?Again
10/10/2003 12:00:00 AM | Softball
Diane Miller has played an integral part in the emergence of Rams softball on a national level as a coach at Colorado State. Now entering her fourth season, Miller has worked extensively with the team?s hitters, as well as defensively with the Rams? infielders and catchers as the Rams won the 2003 Mountain West Conference Tournament Championship.
From 1989 to 1992, Miller played an integral part in the success of another team, this time as a player at Missouri Southern State University, leading the Lions to an NCAA Division II National Championship in her senior year.
Missouri Southern State inducted Miller and the entire 1992 National Championship team into the University?s Hall of Fame in 2002, becoming the only team enshrined there.
MSSU will honor Miller once again with an individual induction into the Hall of Fame along with five other former Lion athletes. A three-time second-team All-American and four-time all-conference pick, Miller holds the Lions? record for career RBIs with 134. She also ranks in the top five in a number of categories including second all-time in triples (22), doubles (53) and at bats (598), third in single season RBI (43) and career hits (203), fourth in career games played (199) and fifth in career runs (103) and home runs (8).
?I feel honored that they (MSSU) think of me as someone who contributed enough that they would honor me in the Hall of Fame,? said Miller. ?I think it is appropriate that any time a team reaches a milestone such as a National Championship, that the entire team be honored before they honor the individuals.?
The ceremony will take place Saturday Oct. 11, and with the induction of the class of 2003, the Hall of Fame will include 65 members and one team.
